About Saige Ultrasound

Saige Ultrasound is a specialist women’s imaging practice and part of the Saige Health and Wellness family. We provide high-quality obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound in a calm, unhurried and personal setting. We believe how a patient feels during and after a scan matters as much as the images. Every patient should feel heard, informed and cared for, whether they’re coming in for an exciting milestone or facing difficult news.

We’re opening a satellite clinic in Port Macquarie and are looking for a skilled, compassionate sonographer to bring the Saige approach to the community.

The role

The position starts at one day per week, with real potential to grow as the clinic expands. You’ll often be the sole sonographer on site, with remote support from the broader Saige team and our reporting specialists. It’s ideal for an experienced sonographer looking for additional work, or anyone wanting a meaningful part-time role with room to develop.

Key responsibilities

Women’s health ultrasound, including:

Early pregnancy and dating scans, including assessment of pregnancy location and viability

12–13 week 1st trimester anatomy scan and first-trimester screening

18–22 week morphology scans

Third-trimester growth and wellbeing scans, including umbilical artery, MCA and uterine artery Doppler assessment and amniotic fluid assessment

Pelvic and gynaecological ultrasound (transabdominal and transvaginal)

Endometriosis ultrasound following IDEA consensus principles (training provided)

Preparing studies for reporting:

Acquiring complete, high-quality image sets in line with Saige protocols and ASUM/ISUOG guidelines

Taking accurate biometry and Doppler measurements and plotting them against practice reference charts

Writing explicit, thorough worksheets that flag significant findings

Communicating promptly with reporting doctors, especially about urgent or unexpected findings

Ensuring accurate patient identification,

documentation and image archiving

Delivering the Saige patient experience:

Greeting every patient warmly and explaining each step of the scan

Using informed consent and trauma-aware practice, particularly for transvaginal examinations

Creating a calm, private and respectful environment that considers cultural, emotional and personal needs

Supporting patients and their families through emotional moments with compassion and professionalism

Following escalation pathways for urgent findings and linking patients with appropriate follow-up care

Clinic and professional responsibilities:

Following infection control, equipment care and WHS practices

Taking part in quality assurance, audit and peer review

Maintaining ASAR accreditation and CPD

What we’re looking for

Essential:

ASAR accreditation as a Medical Sonographer

First Aid certification 9Current)

Strong, independent OandG scanning experience, including morphology and transvaginal scanning

Confidence with obstetric Doppler assessment

Desirable:

FMF NT and Maternal doppler accreditation, or willingness to obtain it

Experience or interest in endometriosis imaging

Working independently in a complex clinical environment:

Confidence working as the sole sonographer on site, with sound judgement about when to escalate

Ability to manage a varied list and adapt when things don’t go to plan, without compromising quality

Strong problem-solving skills for challenging scans, such as difficult body habitus, fetal position, limited access, equipment issues or unexpected presentations

Ability to tailor technique and protocol to the clinical question and recognise when a study needs extending

Managing unexpected findings and emotive situations:

Experience handling significant findings, such as pregnancy loss, ectopic pregnancy,

fetal anomalies or suspicious gynaecological findings, calmly and sensitively

A clear understanding of professional scope when responding to distressed patients while findings are communicated through the reporting doctor

Composure, emotional intelligence and the ability to stay present and supportive under pressure

Self-awareness and resilience, including knowing when to debrief and use available support

Compassion and patient focus:

Genuine warmth, empathy and respect for every patient

Clear, kind communication adapted to each patient’s understanding, anxiety and circumstances

Commitment to dignity, privacy, informed consent and culturally safe care

Professional attributes:

High attention to detail in imaging, measurement and documentation

Reliability and professionalism, especially in a satellite setting

A collaborative attitude and commitment to ongoing learning

What we offer

75–85 per hour, depending on skills and experience

Hands-on, colleague-led training in endometriosis ultrasound, with support for formal education in advanced endometriosis imaging if you want it

Increasing hours as the Port Macquarie clinic grows, and career development in specialist women’s imaging if desired

Support for further training aligned with your interests

Access to experienced colleagues and reporting specialists across Saige Ultrasound

A practice that genuinely values high-quality, compassionate care

Your cover letter must include both of the following. Applications without them will not be considered:

Why this role (maximum 25 words). Why you want this position.

Why you’re a great fit for Saige Ultrasound (maximum 250 words). Address your clinical skills, how you handle unexpected findings and emotive situations, your approach to patient care, and what you’d bring to working independently in our Port Macquarie clinic.
