Do you have kitchen experience and don't want to work in a stressful environment?
Ipswich Roasters Pty Ltd is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Kitchen Assistant to join our team in Ipswich, QLD. This is a full-time position based at either The Old Butcher Shop Cafe, Sadliers Crossing, or The Elderflower Cafe in North Tivoli. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our culinary operations, ensuring our kitchen runs smoothly and efficiently. You will work alongside our experienced chefs and kitchen team to prepare, cook, and present food to the high standards our customers expect. This role is essential to maintaining the quality and consistency of our food offerings whilst supporting the broader hospitality service we provide.
This position includes weekend work. We are flexible to offer 4-5 day work weeks. Start 6:30am, finish by 2:15pm.
Key responsibilities
- Preparing ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning vegetables, meats, and other food items
- Assisting chefs with the preparation and cooking of meals in accordance with recipes and food preparation standards
- Operating kitchen equipment safely and effectively, including ovens, fryers, grills, and other cooking appliances
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the kitchen, including sanitising work surfaces, utensils, and equipment
- Managing stock levels and assisting with food storage to ensure ingredients remain fresh and organised
- Plating and presenting dishes according to established standards before they are served to customers
- Responding to kitchen demands during service and assisting with order fulfilment in a timely manner
- Following food safety and health and safety protocols at all times
- Supporting the wider kitchen team to achieve daily operational targets and customer satisfaction goals
What we're looking for
- Previous experience working in a kitchen environment, preferably in a hospitality or food service setting
- A solid understanding of food safety and hygiene practices, with relevant certification (such as a Food Safety Supervisor course) being highly desirable
- The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment, maintaining focus under pressure
- Good physical fitness and stamina, as the role involves prolonged periods of standing and repetitive tasks
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of food preparation and presentation
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with chefs and kitchen staff
- Reliability and punctuality, with the flexibility to adapt to kitchen schedules and peak service times
- A genuine enthusiasm for hospitality and food preparation
- Knowledge of food storage procedures and inventory management is beneficial
