Sydney Polytechnic Institute (SPI) is a registered, TEQSA accredited private tertiary education institution located in Haymarket, Sydney. We teach postgraduate programs in Data Science including a Master, Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificicate. Other undergraduate and postgraduate programs are in our plans. Our Academic Board and Governing Council members include academics with a broad range of experience in engineering, data science, ICT and business from across Go8 and non-Go8 universities.

About the role
We are looking for an experienced librarian from the higher education or VET sector to join us on a casual basis, starting as soon as possible .
This is an opportunity to take real ownership of a small library. You will develop its services, systems and processes, support our students and staff, and make sure our library practices meet copyright and compliance requirements. The role suits someone who wants flexible hours in a central city location and enjoys working independently in a growing institution.
Key responsibilities
Develop the library function of the Institute, including its systems, services and processes
Provide information and advice on library resources,
systems, services and support
Provide library services to students and staff
Support and mentor students in using the library, and provide effective solutions or refer them to specialist assistance where appropriate
Resolve routine and non-routine issues, escalating as appropriate
Ensure SPI complies with education copyright obligations and the Copyright Act 1968
Ensure all library practices meet compliance and reporting requirements
Identify and contribute to continuous improvement of systems, policies and procedures
Contribute to preparing procedural documents, and to reviewing and improving existing procedures and online information
Other duties as reasonably requested by your supervisor
About you
Essential – qualifications and experience
An ALIA-accredited library and information studies qualification and eligibility for Associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
Sound knowledge of library and information service concepts, principles and theory, and a good understanding of library systems, practices, procedures and current developments
Demonstrated experience working in a higher education or VET library environment
Demonstrated understanding of library technologies, including library management systems, and the ability to support emerging library technologies
Demonstrated experience in service delivery and improvement
Full working rights in Australia
Essential – skills and attributes
Basic IT knowledge and troubleshooting skills
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Good self-organisation, self-motivation and self-leadership
A positive, cooperative team player with an inclusive and supportive approach to colleagues
