The Compass Institute is a South East Queensland Charity dedicated to providing support for people with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Compass uses an innovative further education model that enables young people with a disability to make a smooth transition from school to an increasingly independent future. Our programs promote physical, mental and emotional well-being empowering these young people to take up opportunities as they arise.
Starting in 2003 with 3 Trainees, the organisation now employs 90 specialist staff, providing post school education, training and vocational opportunities to over 160 Trainees at 5 locations from Caboolture to Gympie. In addition to the Compass campuses, we have a diverse range of social enterprises including Compass Farm (a 20-acre organic farm)Connections Cafés, Garden Café, Harvest Kitchen, Rakes & Panes and Wabi Sabi Retail Program.
The intent of the service model was to dramatically change the philosophy behind this type of service from one of passive recreation to a pathway of lifelong learning, skills based training and vocational opportunities. In many ways Compass has rewritten the rule book around what a day program can achieve.
Our vision for Compass is “Changing Lives”. As individuals, as an organisation and as a community, we can strive to develop equality in lifestyle, opportunity, integration and access for all people.
