Plenty of excellent accountants step back from public practice because the hours stop working. Usually that's school pick-ups, sometimes caring responsibilities, sometimes just wanting a life outside work. We think that's a waste of talent, so we've designed this role to fit around you.

Work school hours, a 4-day week or full time. Spend two days a week with the team in our Balcatta office and work from home the rest. Salary is $130,000–$160,000 pro-rata, depending on experience and hours.

How the flexibility actually works

We know "flexible" often means "flexible until it's inconvenient." Here's what it means at Finness:

- Your hours, agreed upfront. We'll consider anything from 0.6 FTE up to full time. School-hours candidates typically work 9:15am–2:45pm, with the rest of the day yours.
- Your portfolio is sized to your hours. Part-time doesn't mean a full-time workload squeezed into fewer days.
- Hybrid that works around school hours. Two days a week in our Balcatta office (free parking, in Perth's northern suburbs), on days and times that fit your schedule. The rest of the week you work from home. We're 100% cloud and 100% Xero, so nothing is lost.
- School holidays covered. Take leave by arrangement, or work from home during the holidays.
- A busy season you can manage. Tax time gets busier, but we plan for it with extra support so you're not working nights.

The role

As Accounting Manager, you'll own a portfolio of growing service businesses, typically turning over $1m–$15m. You'll be their main point of contact, not someone several layers away from the client.

You'll:

- Manage your own client relationships and run client meetings (in person or online)




- Lead proactive tax planning and turn complex Australian tax issues into clear, practical advice
- Support advisory work, including budgets, cash flow forecasts, KPI and management reporting
- Review work and coach a small team of accountants
- Help improve how the firm runs, because your ideas will actually get used

You'll report to John Finnegan (Director) and work alongside a small team who value transparency, helping each other out and leaving egos at the door.

About you

- CA or CPA qualified
- 6+ years in Australian public practice
- Strong Australian tax knowledge
- Confident working directly with clients
- Experienced in Xero
