Installation Theatrical Engineering – Port Melbourne VIC

Installation Theatrical Engineering Pty Ltd

Port Melbourne | Full-time

$120,000–$135,000 + super, depending on experience

Deliver distinctive projects from quote to completion

Installation Theatrical Engineering (ITE) designs, manufactures and installs specialist equipment for theatres, performing arts centres and entertainment venues across Australia.

Established in 1980, our work includes stage machinery, lifting systems, motor controls, lighting infrastructure, curtains and tracks. Our team brings together engineering, workshop fabrication and site installation to deliver practical solutions for performance spaces.

We are seeking an experienced, commercially minded Project Manager to strengthen our estimating and delivery team. Our projects typically range from $50,000 to approximately $2 million , with varied technical requirements and a mix of mechanical, electrical and construction interfaces.

The role

You will manage projects from scope development and quotation through to procurement, manufacture, installation, commissioning and handover.

Working closely with our directors and founder, you will draw on their industry knowledge while contributing your own project management experience, technical understanding and commercial judgement. You will turn client requirements and technical concepts into clear quotations, realistic programmes and well-managed projects.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys understanding how equipment is built and installed, building strong client relationships and taking responsibility for delivery.

Your responsibilities

- Manage multiple projects, maintaining control of scope, budget, programme and quality.

- Prepare and review quotations, estimates,

tender submissions, project documentation and delivery plans.

- Coordinate engineering, workshop production, suppliers, subcontractors and installation teams.

- Act as the main client contact for your projects, working with builders, consultants and venue teams.

- Manage procurement, cost tracking, forecasts, progress claims and variations.

- Review drawings, specifications and contracts to identify scope gaps, interfaces and risks.

- Plan site access, installation activities, testing and commissioning with the delivery team.

- Maintain accurate project records and provide clear reporting on progress, costs and decisions required.

- Work alongside our existing project managers and help improve our estimating and delivery processes.

- Ensure safety and quality requirements are incorporated throughout each project.

About you

You have experience taking ownership of technical projects or specialist trade packages from planning through to completion. You understand the practical demands of delivery and can balance client expectations with programme, cost and resource constraints.

Your background may be in mechanical or electrical contracting, machinery, industrial automation, engineered fabrication, lifting systems, theatre infrastructure or a related field.

You will bring:

- Demonstrated project management experience, ideally on projects or packages within the $50,000–$2 million range.

- Robust commercial judgement,

including experience managing budgets, variations and contract obligations.

- The ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications and develop a complete scope of work.

- Experience coordinating procurement, manufacture and site installation.

- Estimating experience, or a sound understanding of labour, materials, subcontractor costs and project allowances.

- Clear communication and confidence working with clients, trades, engineers and suppliers.

- Strong organisation and the ability to manage several projects at different stages.

- Confidence using Excel, project management software and digital documentation. Simpro experience would be an advantage.

- A practical approach to solving problems and sound judgement about when to escalation issues.

A relevant trade or engineering qualification would be highly regarded. Direct theatre industry experience is welcome, but we are equally interested in candidates with strong transferable skills.

The role is based in Port Melbourne and includes site visits and interstate travel as required. A current driver’s licence, working with children check and white card is required.

What we offer

- $120,000–$135,000 + super , depending on experience and capability.

- Varied projects combining engineering, machinery and live performance.

- An established Australian business with more than 45 years of industry experience.

- Direct access to the directors and support from experienced engineering, workshop and installation teams.

- The opportunity to take ownership of projects and influence how we plan and deliver our work.

We are taking a considered approach to this appointment and are happy to discuss commencement timing with the right candidate.
