An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Operations Manager to take ownership of a major FMCG transport contract within an established freight business operating across Australia’s eastern seaboard, South Australia and Tasmania.
Providing both local and linehaul transport services, the business plays a critical role in ensuring high-volume food products reach their destinations safely, efficiently, in full and on time - every day.
This is a newly created position offering the opportunity to make a genuine impact. We are seeking a hand-on transport leader who combines strong operational capability with excellent people leadership, customer management and transport compliance knowledge.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day performance of the contract, ensuring drivers, fleet movements, compliance and customer expectations are effectively managed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the scheduling of local and linehaul transport operations;
- Rostering company and casual drivers to meet operational requirements;
- Leading the induction and onboarding of drivers to site;
- Managing driver compliance, including fatigue management and work diaries;
- Working closely with the customer on safety, Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and operational requirements;
- Ensuring driver documentation and employment contracts remain current and compliant;
- Monitoring operational performance and proactively resolving issues;
- Identifying opportunities to improve productivity, service delivery and efficiency; and
- Driving continuous improvement across systems, processes and procedures.
About You
You will be an experienced transport operations professional who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and leading from the front in a fast-moving environment.
Ideally, you will bring:
- A minimum of five years’ experience in transport operations management;
- Strong experience managing local and/or linehaul transport operations;
- Demonstrated leadership and driver management experience;
- Sound knowledge of transport compliance, including CoR, fatigue management and MASS requirements;
- Experience introducing or improving operational systems and processes;
- Strong customer relationship and communication skills;
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to operational challenges;
- A current driver’s licence; and
- MYOB experience would be advantageous.
As this is a 24/7 transport operation, flexibility is important and there will be a requirement to take responsibility for after-hours operational calls when required.
