Business Development Manager | Wastewater Pumping | Victoria
Business Development Manager | Municipal Wastewater & Pumping Systems | Melbourne | Up to $160K Package + Vehicle
Strong Territory. Great Products. No Desk Chains.
If you know pumps, enjoy meeting customers and would rather be out solving problems than sitting through another internal meeting, this could be your kind of role.
Our client is an established supplier of specialist wastewater pumping solutions, known for reliable products, strong technical capability and long-term customer relationships.
You’ll take ownership of an established Victorian territory with customers and opportunities already in place. From there, it’s yours to grow—strengthening relationships, uncovering projects and winning new business across councils, water authorities, contractors and consultants.
You’ll have the autonomy to organise your territory, spend time in the field and become the trusted face of the business across Victoria. Behind you will be an experienced technical team, comprehensive product training and senior leaders who will give you room to get the job done.
Good products. Real customers. Plenty of opportunity—and no one watching over your shoulder all day.
Responsibilities
- Develop and own the Victorian municipal wastewater market
- Build relationships with councils, water authorities, contractors, consultants and other industry stakeholders
- Generate new business across wastewater pumping systems and associated solutions
- Identify upcoming projects, specifications and sales opportunities
- Grow brand awareness in a market with significant untapped potential
- Manage a small number of existing customers while focusing predominantly on new-business development
- Provide practical and technically credible advice to customers
- Travel throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria
- Undertake occasional travel to South Australia and Tasmania
- Work autonomously while reporting directly to the National Sales Manager
- Establish a platform for sustained revenue growth over the first 12 months and beyond
Who We Need
Ideally, you will have:
- Experience selling wastewater pumps or pumping systems into municipal customers
- Existing relationships across councils, utilities, contractors or the wider wastewater sector
- A strong understanding of pumping applications and the ability to hold credible technical conversations
- A proven ability to generate current business and develop a territory
- A trade, fitter or practical mechanical background, although this is desirable rather than essential
- Experience with pumps, valves, telemetry, pipework or another closely related technical product
- A self-starting and self-sufficient working style
- The discipline to work remotely without requiring close supervision
- A practical, grounded approach and a genuine willingness to spend time with customers in the field
- A current Australian driver’s licence and the ability to travel regularly
Candidates from broader pumping backgrounds will also be considered. Wastewater-specific knowledge can be developed if you already understand pumping systems and have the technical foundation, commercial ability and drive to build the market.
A mechanical engineering background may also be suitable, provided you possess strong practical equipment knowledge and genuine business-development capability.
What Success Looks Like
The first 6-12 months will focus on:
- Establishing the company’s presence throughout Victoria
- Developing relationships with key municipal wastewater customers
- Building market and brand recognition
- Creating a qualified opportunity pipeline
- Securing initial project and equipment sales
- Laying the foundations for long-term territorial growth
There will be a realistic initial sales budget while you establish the region. The business understands that meaningful market development requires relationships, technical credibility and consistent customer contact.
The Opportunity
- Take ownership of a largely untapped Victorian territory
- Work remotely with genuine autonomy
- Represent specialist wastewater pumping solutions
- Receive comprehensive product, technical and proprietary systems training
- Work directly with the National Sales Manager and company leadership
- Help shape the company’s future Victorian operations
- Potential to grow with the territory as the business expands its local presence
The Package
$120,000-$140,000 base salary + vehicle + superannuation + company profit-share bonus.
The profit-share bonus is linked to the performance of the overall company, with potential earnings of approximately $20,000 on top of the base package.
A January commencement is anticipated; however, the business is focused on finding the right long-term person and may move earlier for an exceptional candidate.
The initial interview will be conducted virtually, followed by a face-to-face meeting in Victoria for shortlisted candidates.
Confidential enquiries are welcome. Your current employer will not be contacted without your explicit consent.
