The opportunity
We're looking for a Risk and Audit Manager to join our team on an 8-month parental leave cover. This role sits within the first line of defence and plays a key part in ensuring strong risk management, compliance, and control assurance across our Nominal Insurer Claims portfolios.
About QBE
- At QBE, we get to the heart of what matters for our customers. And we do it all with a human touch.
- We're an international insurer with more than 13,000 people working across 26 countries - which means we're big enough for your ambitions, yet small enough for you to make a real impact. It's an exciting time. We're building momentum towards our vision to become the most consistent and innovative risk partner.
- What if you could have a positive impact - at work and in the world? As part of the QBE team, you'll get to spend every day working with people who are passionate, talented and kind.
Your recent role
As a hands-on first-line risk and compliance lead, you'll work closely with Claims leadership and key stakeholders to ensure contractual and regulatory obligations are effectively managed in practice. This role is embedded within the business, giving you the opportunity to influence outcomes, strengthen controls, and drive continuous improvement across Claims.
Key responsibilities include:
- Act as a trusted first-line risk partner, leading and coordinating activities, providing constructive challenge and supporting business risk ownership.
- Perform controls assurance and coordinate Line 1 controls testing against the Nominal Insurer Internal Control Framework and other contractual requirements, including design and operating effectiveness assessments, evidence collection and remediation monitoring.
- Coordinate and oversee issue management, monitor remediation, challenge the adequacy of actions, and identify systemic risks and emerging themes from incidents.
- Support the maintenance of compliance registers and obligation frameworks, including mapping contractual, legislative and regulatory obligations to controls and monitoring activities.
- Maintain and improve the Nominal Insurer RCSA, facilitate risk workshops, review risk ratings and control ownership, and ensure related risks, controls, incidents and issues remain appropriately linked.
- Coordinate audit activities as the auditee and key contact for internal and external auditors, while providing clear, evidence-based monthly and quarterly reporting to support governance, risk management and leadership decision-making.
About You
We're looking for someone who is confident operating in a first-line environment, with a strong understanding of risk and compliance within an operational setting. You'll be comfortable working autonomously, partnering with the business, and driving outcomes in a practical and pragmatic way.
Key requirements
- Ability to work independently with limited direction and provide appropriate coaching to Claims Risk or Claims team members.
- Experience in first-line risk and compliance within financial services or insurance.
- Strong background in internal or external audit or controls assurance, including experience coordinating audits as an auditee and engaging effectively with internal and external auditors.
- Ability to manage issues and remediation activities end-to-end.
- Strong stakeholder engagement,
analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence, challenge and communicate clearly and concisely.
- Membership in, or accreditation by, a relevant skilled body, such as IIA, CA, CPA, CRMA or CIA.
