Occupational Therapist/Social Worker/Psychologist/Speech Pathologist - Adolescent Inpatient Unit & Day Program
The Adolescent Inpatient and Day Program at the Kirwan Health Campus in Townsville are seeking an experienced and client focused Occupational Therapist / Social Worker / Psychologist / Speech Pathologist to join their multidisciplinary team, in a permanent full-time role.
About the prospect
The role involves working with consumers in both community and inpatient contexts as part of the Adolescent Inpatient Unit and Day Service Team (AIUDS).
The Allied Health Clinician works within a multidisciplinary team consisting of both QLD Health and Department of Education staff. As a highly functioning multidisciplinary team member, you will provide clinical services to ensure that the work unit delivers high quality, innovative, mental health and discipline specific assessment and treatment to adolescents and their families/carers.
About the Department
Adolescent Day Program (outpatient service)
The Adolescent Day Program (ADP) caters for high school aged outpatients living in the Townsville community who have a pattern of disengagement from school due to their mental health concerns. The ADP has both an educational and therapeutic focus. Both components are delivered through group, individual, and systemic modalities. The aim of the program is to transition disengaged young people back into an educational pathway.
Adolescent Inpatient Unit
The Adolescent Inpatient Unit is an 8-bedded mental health service for adolescents with complex, persistent mental health issues which result in severe psychosocial impairment. The therapeutic focus of the inpatient unit is on the delivery of contemporary, evidence-based practice, with the consumer and their family/carers at the centre of care provision. AIUDS provides beds for North Queensland, a large geographical area encompassing five hospital and health services.
Role requirements
- Psychology - must possess a post graduate degree in Psychology from an accredited tertiary institution and must hold current unconditional general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA). Possession of a Masters or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from an accredited tertiary institution, or significant progress towards this, would be highly regarded.
- Social Work - must hold at least a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification from an accredited tertiary institution in Social Work as well as eligibility for full membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). While not mandatory, status as an AASW accredited Mental Health Social Worker is highly regarded. ‘Working with Children Blue Card' notice from the Queensland Government.
- Speech Pathology - must hold a tertiary degree qualification from an accredited tertiary institution in Speech Pathology, providing eligibility for practicing membership to Speech Pathology Australia. Prior to commencing employment Speech Pathologists. ‘Working with Children Blue Card' notice from the Queensland Government.
- Occupational Therapy - must hold a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification from an accredited tertiary institution in Occupational Therapy. Registration with the Occupational Therapist Board Australia (AHPRA) is required.
- Highly desirable for all disciplines:
- Possession of relevant post- registration and/or tertiary qualification in mental health would be well regarded for a position at this level.
- Eligibility for appointment as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner under Mental Health Act 2016 would be well regarded.
