Key responsibilities

Managing the maintenance and care of club vessels and assisting with any operations (yard / marina / slipping / swing moorings) as directed by the Yard & Marina Manager. Ensure all club vessels are working and operational. Comply with local and national marine laws and guidance. All vessels are up to code and all Life Saving Appliances (LSA) & Fire Fighting Equipment (FFE) are maintained and ready for use. Maintain club racing marks and other ancillary equipment.

Upkeep and maintenance for club vessels, ensuring all vessels are antifouled and engines serviced as per RMYS vessel maintenance schedule

Ensure vessels are seaworthy and comply with relevant state/national requirements with 90% operational availability

Maintain all safety equipment in date and in valuable working order at 100% operability

Maintenance of racing mark tackle and equipment in accordance with RMYS mark maintenance schedule

Maintenance of Race Tower to ensure it is operational for all events with any faults/issues rectified within 7 days

Review RMYS Risk Register for On-Water, RMSTA, Marina, Yard & Slipway on a 6-monthly basis

Liaise with Boating & RMSTA on vessel availability and requirements

Maintenance and care of marina and yard equipment

Refuelling of club vessels

Cleaning and emptying of Reverse Vending Machine as required

About you

Australian Power boat licence (mandatory)

Australian Driver's Licence (mandatory)





Marine Radio Operator's Certificate (mandatory)

Experience with slipping of vessels (desirable)

Strong organisation skills and time management

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Computer Software Proficiency including Member Magic, Marina Magic and MS Office

Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron (RMYS) was founded as the St Kilda Sailing Club in 1876 and became the St Kilda Yacht Club in 1884. The St Kilda Yacht Club was granted royal assent in April 1924 to become Royal St Kilda Yacht Club. In June 1961 Royal St Kilda Yacht Club amalgamated with the St Kilda 14 Foot Sailing Club and adopted the name, 'Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron'. The mission of Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron is to deliver a well organised range of yacht racing, cruising, on water activities and social events; deliver a wide range of learn-to-sail and boating courses from introductory to advanced that develop and support sailors of all skill levels; promote all club activities in a safe, supportive, healthy and friendly manner; cultivate an enjoyable and inclusive social atmosphere for our members and the community; provide a boating precinct with a high-quality clubhouse, facilities and marina; engage with the community and the natural environment; and uphold good governance, strong financial management, sustainability and accountability.
