The key duties of the position include:
The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare is strengthening its project delivery,
governance and reporting capability to support delivery of strategic priorities across the organisation. The Strategic Implementation Office (SIO) leads this work and is undertaking a staged transition toward an Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO). The role will support strategic initiative program leads, project managers and business areas to apply consistent project management practices, monitor delivery progress, manage risks and dependencies, and improve project management maturity across the institute.
The position may be filled at either APS5 or APS6 level, depending on the skills, experience and capability of the successful candidate.
At APS5 level, the role will work under general direction, apply established procedures and exercise judgement to deliver defined project governance, reporting, coordination and improvement activities. The role will provide practical support to stakeholders and elevate more complex matters as appropriate.
At APS6 level, the role will work with greater independence and accountability, exercise sound judgement in more complex circumstances, provide specialist advice, lead discrete bodies of work and contribute to the design and implementation of improved governance practices, tools and frameworks.
The role will contribute to, and where appropriate lead, the SIO’s current priorities and staged transition to an EPMO, across the following areas:
- Strategic initiative delivery, governance and reporting: Support consistent oversight,
coordination and monitoring of strategic initiatives and priority projects by maintaining accurate project information, preparing timely and decision-quality reporting, supporting governance meetings, and monitoring milestones, risks, issues, dependencies and deliverables.
- Transition from the SIO to an EPMO: Contribute to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of proportionate governance processes, project management standards, tools and reporting practices. This may include the Project Management Framework, templates, project pipeline, master schedule, capability roadmap and related governance artefacts.
- Building project management capability: Build project management capability and stakeholder confidence across AIHW by providing practical guidance, sharing consistent approaches, supporting the adoption of EPMO practices and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Stakeholder support and advice: Build productive working relationships with initiative leads, project managers, business areas and governance groups by gathering and analysing information, coordinating activities, providing project management guidance and escalating matters appropriately.
This positions report to the Lead – Strategic Implementation Office and are responsible for providing guidance, support and oversight to all strategic initiatives and defined projects in delivery across the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
The Senior Project Officer and Project Officer are ongoing roles.
