- Base salary range: $108,413 – $120,287 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.
About the area
People & Culture (P&C;) plays a critical role in supporting the University achieve its strategic priorities through effective workforce governance, compliance, and organisational capability.
The Workplace Relations and Employment Compliance portfolio provides enterprise leadership across employment compliance, workforce governance, and assurance activities. Operating within UWA’s devolved workforce model, the function provides centralised oversight, specialist expertise, monitoring, and assurance to support compliant, consistent, and defensible workforce practices across Schools and directorates.
The Employment Compliance function is responsible for strengthening the University’s employment compliance framework through proactive assurance activity, compliance monitoring, remediation oversight, governance uplift, and continuous improvement. The function works collaboratively across People & Culture, Payroll, Finance, Legal Services, Internal Audit, and operational areas to support sustainable compliance capability and ongoing institutional self-assurance.
About the opportunity
- Investigate and resolve employment compliance matters relating to employee entitlements, payroll compliance, classifications, engagement arrangements, leave, superannuation and workforce governance requirements.
- Conduct compliance reviews, analyse workforce and payroll data, identify risks and emerging trends, and support assurance, audit and remediation activities across the University.
- Provide specialist employment compliance advice and contribute to the development of compliance frameworks, monitoring mechanisms, controls, policies and continuous improvement initiatives.
About you
- Demonstrated experience in employment compliance, workforce governance, payroll compliance, workplace relations, audit, remediation, risk or a related professional function within a large and complex organisation.
- Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation and industrial instruments, including the Fair Work Act, enterprise agreements, awards, right-to-work obligations and workforce compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to investigate complex issues, analyse workforce and payroll data, identify compliance risks and develop practical, evidence-based recommendations.
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and provide trusted specialist advice.
- Excellent organisational, analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records and prepare high-quality briefings, reports and documentation.
