Youth Mental Health Clinician - Social Workers, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Occupational Therapist and Psychologists

Status: Permanent Full Time (80 hours per fortnight). Part Time (0.8 FTE) considered.
Remuneration: $95,732 - $124,498.40 p/a + super + salary packaging
Classification: Social Worker (YC46–YC49), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (NP74–NP81), Occupational Therapist (VG3–VG6) or Psychologist (PK1–PK4), under the Victorian Mental Health Services Enterprise Agreement, commensurate with qualifications and experience

About the Role

Mildura Base Public Hospital is seeking a dedicated Youth Mental Health Clinician to join our Youth Recovery and Wellbeing Services (YRWS) team in a permanent role.

YRWS provides specialist community mental health case management for young people aged 12 to 25, including young people with complex needs who cannot be supported in other sectors. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide recovery-focused assessment, treatment and care coordination that helps young people work towards their goals and improve their wellbeing.

Your work will include triage, mental health and risk assessments, and treatment and care planning with young people and their families, carers and GPs. You will also provide ongoing case management through to transfer or discharge. You will respond to young people in crisis, facilitate individual and group therapy and psychoeducation, and support families and carers. You will also provide secondary consultation and work with GPs, schools, community health and welfare services to strengthen early identification and intervention for young people across our region.

The role is rostered Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm, and reports to the Manager, Youth Recovery and Wellbeing Services.

About You





We welcome applications from Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and Mental Health Nurses. Provisional Psychologists are encouraged to apply, as we have a Board Approved Clinical Psychology Supervisor available onsite.

To be successful in this role you will have:

- An approved degree and current registration in Nursing, Social Work, Psychology or Occupational Therapy
- Demonstrated experience providing direct clinical care to people who have experienced mental illness
- Knowledge and application of recovery-oriented practice
- Highly developed skills in assessment, risk assessment, crisis intervention and care planning, including evidence-based approaches such as CBT and problem-solving therapy
- Experience in case management and care coordination, and in delivering individual and group therapy and psychoeducation
- Dual diagnosis capability, meaning the ability to screen for co-occurring mental health and alcohol and other drug concerns and to use appropriate referral pathways
- Working knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (Vic) and associated regulatory frameworks
- The ability to build effective relationships with young people, families, carers, GPs and multidisciplinary and interagency teams
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including clinical documentation and the use of client management systems




- A genuine interest in supporting young people and a commitment to mental health and wellbeing promotion in the community

Postgraduate qualifications in mental health will be highly regarded.
