Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environment Advisor (HWSE) - Leeton

At SunRice, with rice at our heart, we bring people together through inspiring and delicious food. From our roots in the Riverina more than 75 years ago, we’ve grown into a proudly Australian-owned, ASX-listed global food business with around 2,300 employees, a diverse portfolio of 45 brands and a presence in nearly 50 countries.

Guided by our purpose and values, we’re driven by a global mindset, a commitment to innovation and genuine care for our people, communities and environment. Join a business with a strong heritage, exciting growth ambitions and opportunities to make a meaningful impact.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environment Advisor to join our team in Leeton.

Supporting our Leeton Mill sites (~75%) and Deniliquin Mill (~25%), you’ll work closely with site leaders, supervisors, employees and the HWSE Business Partner to strengthen safety capability, manage risk and build a positive, proactive safety culture. You’ll provide practical advice, influence frontline leadership and support the ongoing improvement of our safety, wellbeing and environmental systems.

This is a hands‑on role with a strong site presence. You’ll regularly monitor work activities, participate in safety walks and engage directly with employees and contractors across operational areas and offices. Australian travel of approximately 20–30% is required.

What you’ll be doing

Maintaining a visible and regular presence across Leeton and Deniliquin operational sites

Conducting routine site monitoring and safety walks,

following up identified risks and agreed actions

Providing practical safety, wellbeing and environmental advice to leaders, employees and contractors

Coaching and influencing frontline leaders and supervisors to meet their safety and due diligence responsibilities

Intervening and stopping work where an activity presents an unacceptable safety risk, then engaging with those involved to explain the risk and support a safe way forward

Leading or participating in risk assessments and incident investigations, with a focus on learning and preventing recurrence

Supporting the management of critical risks and verifying that effective controls are in place and working

Reviewing safety data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement and help shift the business from reactive responses to proactive safety management

Working closely with the HWSE Business Partner to support compliance, assurance activities and continuous improvement

Supporting contractor management, management of change and improvements to SunRice safety systems and processes

About you

You’ll be someone who is comfortable spending time in operational areas, building trusted relationships and constructively challenging unsafe practices. You can influence frontline leaders,

confidently intervene when work is unsafe and turn those moments into practical learning conversations.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

A Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or similar

Preferred a minimum two to three years’ experience in a health, safety, wellbeing or environmental role

Experience in manufacturing, agriculture, food production or another high-risk operational environment would be advantageous

Experience with incident investigations and safety management systems

Knowledge of Australian workplace health and safety legislation

Strong communication, coaching and influencing skills, particularly with frontline leaders and operational teams

The confidence and judgement to stop unsafe work, engage respectfully and help people understand the reasons behind required controls

A current Australian driver licence and the ability to travel

Experience in auditing, environmental management, Chain of Responsibility, health and wellbeing, or safety reporting systems will be highly regarded.

Make a meaningful impact

This is an opportunity to play an important role in strengthening safety capability across major Riverina operations. Through visible site engagement, practical coaching and close partnership with the HWSE Business Partner, you’ll help move safety management from reactive to proactive and ensure our people go home safely each day.

If you’re a practical and collaborative safety skilled who enjoys being visible on site, influencing frontline leaders and making a difference on the ground, we’d love to hear from you.
