DSV is establishing the Daily Good Café at the Royal Children’s Hospital precinct - a welcoming, customer-facing social enterprise that will create meaningful paid employment for people with Down syndrome, while also serving as a recent community hub through DSV’s new co-located central office and multi-purpose function space.

The Café Assistant Manager supports the Café Manager in the daily operations of the DSV Social Enterprise Café, providing hands-on leadership on the floor and ensuring smooth service delivery. This role supervises front-of-house and back-of-house staff, coordinates shift activities, and maintains quality and safety standards. The Café Supervisor plays a key role in coaching and mentoring team members, including employees with Down syndrome.

Responsibilities

- Supervise and coordinate staff during shifts, ensuring efficient workflow and service delivery
- Open and close the café as required, following established procedures
- Monitor food quality, presentation, and hygiene standards throughout service
- Train, mentor, and support team members, including employees with disability,



using the buddy system
- Manage customer interactions, resolve complaints, and ensure a positive customer experience
- Operate and troubleshoot the Impos POS system and assist staff with transactions
- Monitor stock levels and communicate reorder requirements to the Café Manager
- Ensure compliance with food safety (HACCP), WHS, and hygiene regulations
- Assist with rostering, shift adjustments, and time-and-attendance management via Tanda
- Support cash-up, daily reconciliation, and reporting processes
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the café, including front-of-house and back-of-house areas
- Deputise for the Café Manager in their absence
- Strong barista skills and knowledge

- Attention to detail with a focus on quality and consistency
- Patient, empathetic, and supportive approach to working with people of all abilities
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
- Lived experience of Down syndrome or disability
- Experience in a social enterprise, not-for-profit, or disability services environment
- Experience opening, scaling, or establishing a new hospitality venue
- Experience working in a hospital or institutional food service setting
