Senior Speech Pathologist - Community Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service

Manage complex communication and swallowing needs and build independence through specialist community-based brain injury rehabilitation.

Position Classification: Speech Pathologist Level 3

Remuneration: $61.31 - $63.29 per hour

Hours Per Week: 24

Location: Westmead Hospital

Where you'll be working

Based at Westmead Hospital, you’ll join the established Community Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service (CBIRS), supporting adults with moderate to severe acquired brain injuries beyond the hospital environment. You’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team committed to person-centred, culturally responsive and evidence-based rehabilitation that helps clients achieve meaningful goals in everyday life.

- Work across clients’ homes, local communities and centre-based environments
- Be part of a collaborative interdisciplinary rehabilitation team
- Partner with clients, families, carers and communication partners to achieve shared goals
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement, research and professional education
- Support a culture of innovation, learning and high-quality clinical practice

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Speech Pathologist, you’ll provide advanced clinical assessment and intervention for adults with complex acquired brain injury,



helping them overcome communication and swallowing challenges and participate more fully in their home and community life.

- Assess, diagnose and manage complex speech, language, communication, voice, fluency and swallowing needs
- Develop, implement and evaluate personalised, evidence-based rehabilitation programs and discharge plans
- Provide education, training and practical strategies for clients, families, carers and communication partners
- Recommend and support the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and communication equipment
- Lead group speech therapy programs while contributing to documentation, student supervision, quality improvement and service development

Qualification: Degree in Speech Pathology

Registration: Eligibility for full practicing membership of Speech Pathology Australia

Selection Criteria

- Recognised tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia
- Evidence of significant graduate experience and advanced skills in the speech pathology management of clients and their families in one or more of the following client groups: brain injury,



neurological disorders, rehabilitation
- Evidence of effective skills working independently and as a member of a cooperative interdisciplinary team
- Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated use of an evidence-based approach to speech pathology practice
- Demonstrated experience of working across a range of environments, preferably in clients’ homes and community settings
- Evidence of engagement in continuing professional education and quality management activities
- Current Drivers Licence valid within Australia
