About the Prospect
An exciting ongoing full-time opportunity isavailable within Council’s NaturalEnvironment and Parks team for a motivated Horticulturalist to join a team ofhorticultural professionals based at the Sale Depot.
In this role, you will help deliver a variety ofhorticultural works programs as part of a hands-on team maintaining parks,gardens and open spaces across Wellington Shire. You will also assist theSenior Horticulturalist with coordination and technical tasks, and may directand assist others in maintenance works to ensure public spaces are presentedtoa high standard.
If you have sound horticultural knowledge, an eye for detail,good communication skills, a positive and flexible approach to work and agenuine commitment to achieving quality outcomes, this could be the perfectposition for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Assistingwith the delivery of horticultural maintenance works across Council’s openspaces, gardens and public areas.
- Following works schedules and completing tasks inline with horticultural maintenance specifications and customer performanceindicators.
- Operating plant, equipment and tools safely,efficiently and in accordance with relevant legislation, procedures and safework practices.
- Undertaking manual horticultural work, includingmaintenance activities involving plants, materials, herbicides and pesticideswhere appropriately qualified.
- Assisting the Senior Horticulturalist withcoordination, technical tasks and the supervision of small maintenanceactivities when required.
- Supporting a safe,
collaborative andcustomer-focused team culture while delivering high-quality outcomes for thecommunity.
To be successful in this role, youwill have
- Certificate III in Horticulture or a relevantqualification, together with practical horticultural experience.
- A current Victorian drivers licence, withrelevant licences, tickets or accreditations such as Medium Rigid, chemicalusers, traffic management, chainsaw or loader highly regarded.
- Sound knowledge of horticultural maintenancemethods, plants, materials and safe use of herbicides and pesticides.
- The ability to operate open space equipment andselected medium plant in a safe and productive manner.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage your own time, follow schedules and complete work to agreed standards.
- Good communication skills and the ability to workcooperatively with other employees and members of the public.
- A positive, flexible approach and a commitment to safe work practices, continuous improvement and quality service delivery.
