Are you a passionate STEM educator with a background in geography, geology, environmental science or Meteorology? Are you a science practitioner with a passion for training? Do you enjoy helping others learn through practical, hands-on experiences rather than spending most of your time in a traditional classroom?
This unique opportunity with the Bureau of Meteorology offers the chance to combine your scientific knowledge, training expertise and curiosity in a role that directly contributes to Australia's national weather and climate services. Based in Melbourne's northern suburbs, the position provides a diverse mix of science, field-based learning and vocational training, with a significantly lower classroom teaching load than most secondary school or tertiary teaching roles. You will be training adults to effectively take weather measurements, observe the current weather, classify exposure of measuring equipment and also safely releasing weather balloons. These vocational skills will be learnt on the job. As part of a dedicated training team,
you will help develop and deliver programs that prepare Bureau staff to operate and maintain critical meteorological observing systems across Australia. The successful candidate will be supported to learn current technical skills and gain exposure to a wide range of scientific and operational disciplines. This is a secure and rewarding career opportunity for someone who enjoys continuous learning, practical problem-solving and sharing knowledge with others. For the right person, the role offers a rare combination of education, science and taking weather observation measurements, providing opportunities to explore diverse scientific endeavours while helping shape the capabilities of the Bureau's future workforce.
