Job Description

Northrop Consulting Engineers The role: We are seeking a Project Mechanical Engineer Buildings (Design Coordination & Assurance) to support the planning, design, coordination and technical assurance of mechanical building services projects. Working within multidisciplinary project teams, you will provide mechanical engineering expertise throughout project delivery, ensuring designs meet client requirements, engineering standards, project specifications and operational performance objectives.

Task & responsibilities

What is expected of you: Apply mechanical engineering principles to review,



assess and coordinate building services designs and engineering solutions. Plan, organise and oversee design coordination activities to ensure technical, operational and project requirements are achieved. Review engineering documentation, calculations, specifications and BIM models to verify compliance with project requirements, Australian Standards and design intent.

Identify, assess and resolve technical risks, design clashes and constructability issues affecting project performance and delivery. Contribute specialist engineering advice relating to mechanical systems, materials, equipment selection, performance and installation requirements. Monitor and communicate engineering risks, technical decisions and project outcomes to clients and project stakeholders.

Support quality assurance processes, technical reviews and engineering compliance activities throughout the project lifecycle. Assist in managing project resources, deliverables and commercial performance to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and effectively. Key components and responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

Project Engineering: Design Assurance and Technical Review:

- Assist in reviewing design documentation, models and calculations to identify inconsistencies and coordination issues
- Escalate technical concerns and support QA review processes

Engineering Design:

- Contribute to engineering design meetings and follow up on assigned actions




- Participate in multidiscipline coordination activities supporting resolution of interfaces and clashes
- Obtain inputs from all disciplines and ensure they are integrated in the design

Risk and Issue Management:

- Assist in identifying project risks and issues
- Support tracking risks and coordination issues

Stakeholder and Team Support:

- Support communication between project team members and stakeholders on engineering matters
- Ensure alignment on deliverables, scope and programme

Project Communication:

- Ensure that project Job Managers are briefed by client stakeholders
- Communicate to the project Job Managers the success measures, deliverables & program
- Keep the Client Stakeholder informed about Northrop team performance
- Keep the project Job Managers informed of changes to brief, deliverables, program
- Establish clear communications across teams

Commercial and Delivery support:

- Project progress updated accurately and on time
- Tracking of deliverables with status
- Invoicing aligns with actual progress
- Variances between planned vs actual progress are identified early and communicated

Project Close

Out -Seek project de-briefing by Client Stakeholder at completion -Capture lessons learned

Client: Develop a clear understanding of client project requirements, design intent and performance expectations, and support alignment within the design team Provide targeted technical input into client discussions related to engineering design, design coordination, quality and delivery Communicate key design decisions, risks and coordination issues to relevant stakeholders Be an effective key point of contact to the client for communications about matters concerning, engineering design quality, project delivery and coordination. Discipline specific items to be communicated directly to the Job Managers.
