About The Role Tomago Aluminium is Australia's largest aluminium smelter and one of the Hunter region's largest employers. Following recently securing our long-term future, we are entering an exciting new chapter focused on investment, operational excellence and building the workforce capability needed for the years ahead.

We are seeking an experienced Operations Superintendent to lead a major production department within our smelter.

Reporting to the Department Manager, you will play a key leadership role in shaping operational performance across a large and complex area of the business. You'll lead through others, developing capability in your leadership team while driving safe, reliable and efficient operations.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity where your ability to influence culture, develop people and improve operational performance will directly contribute to Tomago's continued success.

Key Responsibilities Include

- Champion a strong safety culture and lead by example
- Drive performance across production, quality, cost and reliability measures
- Lead, coach and develop frontline Shift Supervisors and operational teams
- Partner with Maintenance, Engineering and Reliability teams to optimise plant performance
- Identify and deliver continuous improvement initiatives
- Manage operational budgets and cost performance
- Support employee engagement, workforce capability and people leadership outcomes
- Align operational priorities with departmental and business objectives

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Bring

- Proven leadership experience within heavy industry, manufacturing, mining, energy or processing environments
- Demonstrated success improving operational performance and team capability




- Strong coaching and leadership skills with a genuine passion for developing people
- A solid track record of safety leadership and risk management
- Experience driving continuous improvement, problem solving and operational excellence
- Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable Qualifications

- Engineering or related tertiary qualification
- Formal leadership, business or management qualifications
