Job Description
The Technical and Operations Manager, Meat Market sits within the Creative Melbourne Branch and offers an exciting opportunity to lead the day-to-day technical, operational and facility management of Meat Market, supporting its ongoing use as a vibrant venue for performance, exhibitions, music, photography, film, fashion, markets and more.
This role plays a key part in delivering impactful outcomes for our community and supporting the strategic goals of the City of Melbourne.
As a key member of the Meat Market management team, you will oversee venue operations while providing expert technical and production advice to support the safe and successful delivery of events. You will balance the needs of presenters, tenants and hirers with the operational requirements of a busy cultural venue, ensuring a high standard of client service, safety and operational readiness.
You will also play an important role in the longer-term sustainability of the venue through maintenance planning, asset management, contractor management and capital works, while building strong relationships across City of Melbourne, Creative Victoria and the broader creative sector.
A little more about the role
- Lead the day-to-day operational and technical management of Meat Market, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality venue services for presenters, tenants and hirers.
- Provide expert technical and operational advice across event delivery, production logistics, audio-visual systems, risk management and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee venue infrastructure, theatrical equipment, maintenance programs, contractors and service agreements to support safe and reliable operations.
- Lead workplace health, safety and risk management practices, including event safety, inductions and emergency preparedness.
- Support capital works,
asset management and infrastructure improvement projects that contribute to the long-term sustainability of the venue

About the Candidate
You are an experienced technical and operational leader who understands what it takes to deliver safe, seamless and high-quality outcomes in a busy performance, event or cultural venue environment.
You combine strong technical knowledge with practical operational judgement and are comfortable balancing event delivery, venue requirements, safety, facilities and stakeholder expectations. You are collaborative and customer-focused, with the ability to build trusted relationships with artists,
presenters, tenants, contractors and internal and external partners.
What your experience might look like
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive senior experience in performing arts venues, technical production, event operations or facilities management.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex venue operations, including event delivery, technical production, logistics, resource planning, risk management, emergency management and workplace health and safety.
- Proven experience leading technical and operational teams and providing sound advice and decision-making within a live performance, event or cultural venue environment.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation and customer service skills, with experience building productive relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience across facilities, assets and contractor management, including maintenance planning, procurement, contract management and/or capital works and infrastructure improvements.
