Arthur is an Australian restaurant in Surry Hills, built around great produce, thoughtful cooking and genuine hospitality.
Our food is driven by the seasons and the quality of the ingredients we work with, with a focus on cooking that is considered, generous and ingredient-led. We’re a small, ambitious team who care about cooking well, looking after each other and creating a restaurant that people want to return to.
We’re looking for a Sous Chef to join our kitchen team and play an important role in the continued development of Arthur.
Join the Team at Arthur
The Opportunity
One of the best things about working at Arthur is our size. With a small kitchen team, the Sous Chef role is much broader than it might be in a larger restaurant. You’re not simply responsible for a section — you’re involved in the kitchen as a whole.
You’ll work directly alongside the Head Chef , playing an active role in the development of the menu and the day-to-day running of the kitchen. From working with new ingredients and developing dishes to refining systems, training the team and leading service, you’ll have the opportunity to be involved across all aspects of the kitchen.
Because the team is small, your ideas and input genuinely matter. We want our chefs to be curious and engaged,
and the Sous Chef will have a real opportunity to contribute to the direction of the food and the way the kitchen operates.
The role also offers the chance to develop as a leader. You’ll help mentor junior chefs, lead the team through service and work closely with the Head Chef to maintain the standards we set for both the food and the kitchen environment.
It’s a role suited to someone who wants to take the next step in their career and be closely involved in the development of a restaurant , rather than becoming one small part of a large brigade.
About You

- A strong interest in Australian produce and seasonal cooking
- Confident leading a kitchen team through service
- A proactive and intuitive chef with strong attention to detail

For the right person, there is an opportunity to grow within Arthur and the wider group as we continue to develop.
