Full-Time Orthoptist
We are seeking a full-time Orthoptist to join our established team at Melbourne Comprehensive Eye Surgeons, Bellfield VIC.
You will become part of a supportive team consisting of six Ophthalmologists, four Orthoptists and our administrative team. This is an excellent opportunity for an Orthoptist looking to build a rewarding long-term career in eye care.
About Us
Our practice provides comprehensive ophthalmic care across a range of specialties, including:
- Glaucoma
- Oculoplastics
- Cataracts
- Medical Retina
- General Ophthalmology
- Paediatrics (Experience in paediatric welcomed but not essential. Paediatric work-up is not a requirement of the role; however, there is an opportunity for candidates with an interest in paediatrics to develop these skills as part of their role)
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work across various clinical presentations, gaining valuable experience in both diagnostic testing and day-to-day Ophthalmic care.
About the Role
As a full-time Orthoptist, your role will involve a combination of clinical, diagnostic and supportive responsibilities. We value variety within the workplace and encourage our team to develop into well-rounded members of the practice, however primarily the role will be to fulfill the needs of the clinical needs of our surgeons.
In addition to your Orthoptic responsibilities, there will be opportunities to:
- Perform a range of ophthalmic diagnostic testing
- Assist Ophthalmologists during consultations and procedures
- Assist with in-house surgical procedures
- Gain some experience in reception duties
- Develop an understanding of the broader operations of an ophthalmology practice, including attending to pre-op and post operate patient calls.
- Work alongside experienced Orthoptists and Ophthalmologists across multiple specialties
About You
The successful applicant will ideally have:
- A degree in Orthoptics
- Previous Orthoptic experience, although recent graduates are encouraged to apply
- Good-strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A friendly, professional, approachable and confident demeanour
- A high standard of personal presentation
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- A willingness to learn and take on new challenges
- An openness to feedback and ongoing professional development
- The ability to adapt to new policies, procedures and systems
- An interest in developing skills across all areas of ophthalmology
Experience with high-tech diagnostic equipment such as OCT, Visual Fields, A-scan/IOL calculations and Pentacam would be advantageous, but is not essential.
Training & Support
We understand that every Orthoptist brings a different level of experience. Our team will provide on-the-job training and support during your initial 1–4 weeks, allowing you time to become familiar with our practice, systems and equipment.
You will work closely with our experienced team and have the opportunity to progressively build your confidence and capabilities in a supportive environment.
