Accountant – Sabre Engineering Services Join Our Team at Sabre Engineering Services!
Sabre Engineering Services is a growing engineering and workforce solutions company supporting some of Australia's largest mining and resources operations.
With more than 150 employees and contractors engaged across our client operations, we're looking for an experienced and capable Accountant to join our internal finance team.
Reporting directly to our Commercial Finance Manager, this is a hands-on accounting role with responsibility for the day-to-day financial activities that support our growing workforce and client base.
The role has been created to strengthen our finance function as the business continues to grow, providing additional accounting capability while allowing our Commercial Finance Manager to focus increasingly on financial strategy, forecasting, commercial performance and business direction.
About the Role Sabre operates in a fast-paced labour hire and professional services environment.
With a workforce of more than 150 people, including a significant number of subcontractors, our finance function manages a high volume of weekly payroll, contractor invoices, timesheets and client claims.
Our major clients also operate their own timesheet, procurement and invoicing platforms, meaning accuracy, reconciliation and strong financial processes are critical.
You will take ownership of much of the day-to-day accounting function and work closely with our Commercial Finance Manager, employees, contractors and broader internal team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and review a high volume of subcontractor invoices and supporting documentation
- Support and process weekly payroll activities for our employed workforce
- Prepare and process client claims and invoices
- Reconcile approved timesheets, contractor invoices, purchase orders and client claims
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
- Maintain accurate financial records and reconciliations within Xero
- Complete bank, credit card and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist with month-end close and preparation of monthly management accounts
- Assist with BAS, payroll tax, superannuation and other statutory reporting requirements
- Monitor accounts receivable and assist with client payment follow-up
- Support cash-flow reporting and forecasting
- Assist with client, project and contractor profitability reporting
- Work across multiple client timesheet, procurement and invoicing systems
- Identify and resolve discrepancies between timesheets, worker costs, invoices, purchase orders and client claims
- Respond to employee and subcontractor queries relating to payroll, invoices, timesheets and payments
- Support the Commercial Finance Manager with budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
- Help develop and improve financial processes and controls as the business continues to grow

- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable and month-end processes
- Payroll experience and a sound understanding of Australian payroll, superannuation and statutory requirements
- Strong Xero experience

- The ability to work autonomously while being part of a collaborative internal team
- A practical, process-focused mindset with an interest in improving the way things are done
Highly Regarded
- Experience within labour hire, recruitment or professional services
- Experience working with a large contractor or subcontractor workforce
- Mining, engineering, construction or resources industry experience
- Experience using SAP, Ariba or other client procurement and invoicing platforms
- Experience with high-volume payroll, timesheets and contractor invoicing
- Accounting qualifications and/or CPA/CA studies or accreditation
What We Offer
- Permanent employment with a growing and successful business
- A role with genuine ownership and exposure across the finance function
- The opportunity to work directly with our Commercial Finance Manager and senior management team
- Exposure to the commercial and financial operations of a rapidly growing engineering and workforce business
- A supportive, collaborative and family-friendly team setting
- Versatile working arrangements for the right candidate
- Opportunities for professional development and career progression
- The opportunity to help shape and improve our finance processes as the business continues to scale
- The chance to make a genuine impact within a proudly Aboriginal-owned business
This role would suit an Accountant who wants more than a narrow transactional position and enjoys being close to the operations of the business.
You’ll become an important part of our internal finance team, taking ownership of the day-to-day accounting function while helping build the systems and processes required to support Sabre's continued growth.
