Senior Handyman / Maintenance Team Leader

Take ownership of maintenance priorities and lead a crew on repairs and new builds.
Arborglen is Flower Power's wholesale production nursery, located on 55 acres in Glenorie. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Handyman to take responsibility for assigned maintenance, repair and construction projects across our nursery.
Working with the Maintenance & Construction Manager, you will assess jobs, organise resources, manage competing priorities and lead a small crew while actively carrying out the work. This role suits a practical leader who can take a project from initial assessment through to safe, quality completion with minimal supervision.
Your responsibilities
Plan and prioritise daily maintenance and project work, responding promptly to breakdowns and urgent repairs.
Lead, allocate tasks to and supervise a crew, setting clear expectations for safety, productivity and workmanship.
Personally carry out general building repairs, carpentry, minor plumbing, steel fabrication and welding within your skills and qualifications.
Maintain and repair nursery infrastructure, including growing structures, benches, pathways, irrigation systems and pumps.
Coordinate new builds and facility improvements, including site preparation, materials, equipment, labour and work schedules.
Assess job requirements, estimate materials and labour, and work within agreed budgets and deadlines.
Organise specialist contractors where required and coordinate their work with nursery operations.
Establish preventive maintenance routines and keep accurate records of work completed and outstanding jobs.
Identify hazards,
conduct pre-start briefings and ensure tools, equipment and work areas are used safely.
Inspect completed work, resolve defects and provide clear progress updates to the Maintenance & Construction Manager.
Skills we are looking for
Proven experience in hands-on maintenance, building repairs and construction projects.
Experience leading a crew and coordinating several jobs at once.
Solid practical skills across multiple maintenance disciplines.
Sound judgement, initiative and the ability to solve problems independently.
Ability to read plans, take measurements and prepare material lists.
Strong English literacy and verbal communication skills - essential. The successful applicant must be able to read and understand technical and WHS documentation, complete maintenance records and reports, communicate safety and operational instructions clearly to employees, contractors and suppliers.
Physical capability to perform manual work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
A current driver's licence, reliable transport and the right to work in Australia.
A White Card; relevant trade qualifications, forklift licence and Bobcat experience will be highly regarded.
Any work requiring a licensed trade must be undertaken by an appropriately licensed person.
