The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of the largest Councils in NSW with the most culturally, socially and economically diverse communities in Sydney. We deliver 29 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 370,000 residents.

The Role

We are seeking a motivated Environmental Compliance and Protection Officer to join Canterbury-Bankstown Council on a permanent full-time basis.

In this role, you will play a key part in protecting public health, the environment and the amenity of our community through the delivery of environmental compliance, regulatory and investigative services.

Working within Council's Planning Directorate and reporting to the Team Leader Environmental Compliance & Protection, you will investigate environmental and public health matters, provide advice to residents and businesses and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

You will work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to address environmental issues, promote sustainable practices, and contribute to the delivery of a safe, healthy, and vibrant community.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

- Deliver high-quality customer service by responding to enquiries, resolving issues, and making informed decisions in line with Council's values.
- Manage a diverse workload, prioritising and responding to high-priority matters within required timeframes.
- Undertake investigations and compliance activities across a range of environmental, public health, planning, and regulatory matters.
- Apply and interpret relevant legislation to ensure compliance and support effective regulatory outcomes.
- Gather and assess evidence, negotiate outcomes,



and resolve disputes through skilled communication and sound judgement.
- Prepare accurate records, investigation notes, reports, correspondence, and evidence briefs.
- Build positive relationships with residents, businesses, and stakeholders while providing expert advice and education.
- Work collaboratively within a team environment, sharing knowledge and supporting the development of colleagues where required.
- Contribute to the protection of public health, environmental sustainability, and community amenity across the Canterbury-Bankstown area.

You will have

- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Current Class C Driver Licence.
- Experience in environmental health, compliance, regulatory services, or a related field.
- Sound knowledge of relevant environmental, planning, public health, and local government legislation.
- Strong investigative, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience preparing reports, evidence, and regulatory documentation, including court-related matters.
- A customer-focused approach with the ability to resolve issues through collaboration and informed decision-making.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment.





The salary for this position starts from $97,327 (Grade G, Step 1) + Car Allowance + 12% super .
