Reporting to the WHS Manager, you’ll work directly with operational leaders and employees to identify hazards, manage risks and embed safety into everyday activities. This is a visible, boots-on-the-ground role for someone who enjoys getting out into the business and delivering practical safety solutions.
Why you’ll love working with us
- Lead with impact – influence safety culture, improve systems and deliver meaningful operational outcomes
- Work across a unique operation – apply your WHS expertise across hospitality, construction, logistics, aviation, marine and engineering
- Live in the Whitsundays – relocate to the Airlie Beach area and commute by ferry to Hamilton Island
- Enjoy a coastal lifestyle – spend your time outside work exploring beaches, islands and the Great Barrier Reef
- Access exclusive benefits – enjoy discounts on dining, island activities, health and travel insurance, plus Family & Friends rates
Your Role
As Workplace Health & Safety Business Partner, you will work closely with operational leaders and employees to make safety practical, visible and part of everyday operations.
You’ll provide clear advice, conduct site inspections,
support incident investigations and help departments identify and manage risk without unnecessarily disrupting business activities. Building trusted relationships across the island will be central to your success.
Where you’ll make an impact
- Provide practical WHS advice and support to managers and employees as a first point of contact for safety matters
- Partner with operational leaders to implement WHS policies, procedures and management plans within their departments
- Support hazard identification, risk assessments and the implementation of effective controls
- Assist with incident investigations and reporting, identifying root causes and appropriate corrective actions
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits and follow up to ensure agreed actions are completed
- Identify psychosocial hazards and support employee wellbeing initiatives
- Encourage employee participation through WHS committees, consultation and safety-awareness activities
- Support site-specific training, inductions and refresher sessions in partnership with the WHS Manager and Learning and Development team
- Assist with emergency-response planning and exercises, including employee readiness and fire-safety procedures
- Maintain accurate WHS records, reports and supporting documentation
- Escalate significant risks and compliance concerns to the appropriate leaders
What we’re looking for
You are an approachable and practical WHS professional who enjoys working alongside operational teams and understanding how work is actually performed.
You can translate safety requirements into clear,
workable solutions and build trust through sound judgement, consistent communication and a genuine willingness to support employees and leaders.
You’ll be comfortable spending time in the field, engaging with people at all levels and balancing safety requirements with the realities of a busy operational setting.
To be successful, you’ll need
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or an equivalent qualification preferred, or demonstrated experience in a relevant WHS role
- Experience working in workplace health and safety, ideally within hospitality, construction, transport, tourism or multi-site operations
- Working knowledge of WHS legislation and relevant safety requirements
- A practical understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment and control measures
- Experience supporting incident investigations, workplace inspections and safety audits
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate across all levels
- The confidence to engage directly with operational teams and provide practical safety advice
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team
- Flexibility to work across different operational areas, shifts and roster requirements
- Awareness of construction, high-risk work, marine operations or engineering services
- Experience delivering training and facilitating safety-engagement activities
- The ability and willingness to live in or relocate to the Airlie Beach area and commute to Hamilton Island
