Join our Mask Product Design and Engineering team
At ResMed, our products become part of people's everyday lives. In our Masks team, that means designing products people wear every night, where comfort, fit, performance, usability and appearance all matter.
We are looking for a Product Design Engineer who enjoys solving complex physical product problems and turning ideas into products that can be manufactured at scale.
The role spans the full product development process, from understanding user needs and exploring early concepts through prototyping, detailed design, testing and production.
Mask design brings together engineering, human anatomy, materials, manufacturing, aesthetics and user experience. Small design decisions can make a meaningful difference to how a product feels, performs and fits into someone's life.
Let's talk about the role
As a Product Design Engineer, you will develop hardware products from early concept through to production.
In Masks, designers and engineers stay close to the product. You will prototype, test, develop CAD, work with suppliers and manufacturing teams, and refine designs as they mature.
The role involves working closely with colleagues across Product Design, Customer Experience, Product Management, Manufacturing, Regulatorily,Materials, Technology and other engineering disciplines.
You will also build knowledge in areas beyond your own discipline as projects demand it, drawing on specialists across ResMed to solve complex product challenges.
Working with internal manufacturing teams and external suppliers, you will help optimise designs for performance, comfort, aesthetics, quality and manufacturability.
Let's talk about Key Responsibilities
- Use human centred design and Design Thinking approaches across discovery and product development.
- Explore and communicate concepts using sketches, physical models, low fidelity prototypes, rapid prototyping and other appropriate design methods.
- Develop detailed 3D CAD designs that balance fit, form, function, user experience and manufacturing requirements.
- Apply engineering methods such as tolerance analysis, risk assessment and DFMEA to support design decisions.
- Build and test prototypes, learn from user and technical testing, and use the results to improve designs.
- Work across disciplines to understand technical constraints, identify opportunities and solve product challenges.
- Develop part specifications, drawings and technical documentation to communicate design intent to suppliers and manufacturing teams.
- Keep up to date with relevant materials, manufacturing methods, technologies and design practices.
Let's talk about what you will bring
- 3+ years of experience developing physical products through the design and engineering process.
- Solid 3D CAD capability using tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, NX or equivalent.
- An understanding of materials, manufacturing processes and design for manufacture.
- Strong problem solving skills and the ability to explore problems creatively and methodically.
- The ability to communicate ideas clearly through visual, verbal and written methods.
- A collaborative approach and an interest in working across different technical and professional disciplines.
- A degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience that would be valuable
You do not need experience in every area below.
- Around three or more years of relevant product development experience.
- Complex surface modelling.
- High volume manufacturing and tooling.
- Injection moulded components.
- Cast or machined components.
- Tolerance analysis, DFMEA or related design engineering methods.
- Rapid prototyping and experimental design approaches.
- Medical device, wearable product or consumer product development.
- Experience using AI tools to support design, research, ideation or problem solving.
Why join the Masks team?
You will work on products where engineering and human experience are closely connected.
Our teams bring together people from design, engineering, materials, manufacturing, customer experience and technology. That means working with specialists across a broad range of disciplines and being involved in different stages of product development.
The role offers opportunities to deepen your technical capability, broaden your product development experience and contribute to products used by people around the world.
ResMed supports flexible ways of working. Because this is a hands on product development role, there will be times when working together in our laboratories and design spaces is important, alongside flexibility where the work allows.
Our users are diverse, and we want our team to bring different experiences and perspectives to the problems we solve.
