Senior Compliance & Investigations Officers
$99,734 – $111,701PA + 15.4% Superannuation
Complete Staff Solutions and The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) are seeking Senior Compliance and Investigations Officers for its expanding Regulatory Division. You will work as part of a supportive team under limited direction with the chance for autonomy and accountability. Your work will contribute to protecting the integrity of Australia's electoral funding and political donation system and directly contribute to public trust in the electoral process.
Key responsibilities
Senior Investigations Officer responsibilities:
Apply a risk-based approach to conducting investigations into potential anti-avoidance schemes under the Electoral Act and the Referendum Act
Use data and intelligence tools to draw insights which proactively identify high-risk behaviours, entities, and schemes, supporting further compliance action and contributing to the development of targeted compliance strategies
Prepare high-quality briefs, reports, and correspondence to inform decision-makers and contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of policies and procedures related to electoral funding and disclosure
Provide leadership, guidance, and support to junior staff as required, fostering capability development and high-quality outcomes
Senior Compliance Officer responsibilities:
Independently review financial disclosure returns submitted by a range of political participants to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with legislative requirements
Assess and review procedures on claims for election funding across the electoral cycle, including undertaking complex compliance assessments in accordance with the Electoral Act
Oversee and coordinate the accurate processing and payment of election funding to eligible political parties and candidates,
ensuring all payments are delivered in line with legislative and procedural obligations
Lead the collection and analysis of information from diverse sources to support a risk-based approach to identifying and investigating potential non-compliance, including risks of foreign influence through financial contributions
Provide leadership, guidance, and support to junior staff as required, fostering capability development and high-quality outcomes
About you
Demonstrated experience in supporting or leading financial audits (or similar assurance activities), with strong organisational skills and a proven ability to manage tasks methodically, accurately, and in accordance with procedures
Well-developed analytical skills with the ability to interpret moderately complex information, identify issues or risks, and provide timely, accurate, and well-informed advice to support decision-making processes
Willingness to be flexible and adaptable as the section responds to the requirements of the legislative changes and guide junior staff as we navigate our reform journey
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively within teams and across business areas, and to build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders at all levels
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, deliver quality outcomes under pressure, and apply sound judgement to balance competing demands in a fast-paced environment
A strong commitment to working collaboratively and contributing positively to a team setting, with the ability to lead by example and support the broader strategic direction of the AEC
Australian citizenship is required and is a condition of engagement
Ability to obtain and maintain Baseline security clearance is required
Certificate IV in Government Investigations (PSP40416), or the willingness to undertake this qualification with AEC support, is highly desirable for Senior Investigations Officer roles
Formal qualifications, or relevant work experience, in accounting, commerce, finance or related fields is highly desirable for Senior Compliance Officer roles

This includes the implementation and regulation of new federal election funding and disclosure laws, which are central to maintaining transparency in the political system. The Disclosure and Compliance section sits within the Regulatory Division and supports the AEC by coordinating political financial disclosure activities, as well as planning and delivering compliance reviews and investigations related to financial disclosures.
