Purpose of the Position
Reporting to Managers and the Principals, this is a full time Intermediate/Senior Accountant role at Wilson Pateras Sydney based in the CBD. The Intermediate/Senior Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day financial activities, preparing financial statements and tax returns, conducting financial analysis, preparing basic tax advice, the opportunity to process self-managed superannuation funds and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and taxation laws. This role will also involve collaborating with other departments as well as providing advice and mentorship of junior staff where necessary.
Key Responsibilities & Activities
Responsibilities include:
- Preparation of financial and management accounts,
statutory returns (Income Tax, Fringe Benefits Tax, Payroll Tax, Land Tax etc. and related working papers) for a broad spectrum of individual, corporate and family-owned businesses operated as sole traders, companies, trusts and partnership structures.
- Preparation of annual/quarterly/monthly BAS and IAS and PAYG Instalment variations.
- ASIC, Workers' Compensation and STP reporting.
- Division 7A calculations, maintaining CGT registers for clients and maintenance of statutory registers for corporate entities.
- Liaison with clients and other stakeholders (ATO, Revenue NSW, ASIC, ACNC etc.) on client matters.
- Assisting Managers with complex taxation issues and other ad hoc technical tasks.
- Mentoring and training of junior staff, where necessary.
- Assisting clients with ad hoc accounting and taxation queries as they arise.
Position Qualifications and Skills
Preferred candidates will have:
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, Commerce or Business with an intention to commence a CA or CPA qualification or currently working towards one.
- Australian citizen or permanent resident.
- A minimum of three years' experience in public practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and to meet budget requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and respect for client confidentiality.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience with Active Workpapers, ATO Portal, Xero, XPM, Xero ledger, FYI doc's and Now Infinity would be advantageous.
