Turn the numbers into decisions. Not just reports.
Our client is a well-established Australian traffic management business with a large operational workforce, a major vehicle and equipment fleet, and long-term customer relationships. They are growing, and the CFO needs a Management Accountant who wants to understand how the business actually makes money.
This is not a transactional accounting role. You will explain why results changed, spot margin problems early, and help management decide what to do next.
The role
You will be one of three people in the finance team, working with the CFO and an Accounts Officer. Day to day, you will:
Own monthly management reporting: P&L;, budget vs actual, prior year comparisons, EBITDA and NPAT, with explicit commentary
Investigate variances and explain what is driving them
Build and maintain budgets, rolling forecasts and 13-week cash-flow forecasts
Analyse customer and contract profitability, and flag margin deterioration early
Report on labour, subcontractor and fleet costs, including vehicle utilisation and lease vs buy decisions
Track capex, working capital, debtor days and collections
Run key parts of month-end: journals, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and balance sheet reconciliations
Prepare supporting schedules for the monthly Board pack
Improve reporting,
automate manual tasks and strengthen financial controls
About you
3 to 6 years' accounting experience, including management or commercial accounting
Solid grasp of P&L; and balance sheet accounting
Experience with monthly reporting, budgeting and forecasting
Sharp analytical skills, with the confidence to challenge numbers that look wrong
Able to explain finance to managers who are not accountants
High attention to detail and strong organisation
Highly regarded
CPA or CA qualified, or part-way through
Xero and Power BI
Job costing and contract profitability analysis
Multi-branch, asset-intensive or operationally heavy industries (construction, traffic management, labour hire, infrastructure, transport)
Experience preparing Board reporting
What is on offer
$105,000 to $120,000 plus superannuation, based on skills and experience
Direct reporting line to the CFO
Exposure to senior management and Board-level reporting
Broad commercial and operational experience, not a narrow finance seat
Real scope to shape how the business measures and manages performance
Sunshine Coast based
(Insert additional benefits)
If you enjoy getting into the detail of the numbers and finding out what drives profitability, we would like to hear from you.
