Permanent Part-Time High Intensity Disability Support Workers (Male)
You will work as part of a consistent 2:1 support team, providing structured, person-centred support within the participant's home and community. The participant is autistic non-verbal and has complex communication and high support needs, requiring structured 2:1 support due to complex behaviours of concern, epilepsy and associated support requirements. This is a specialised, high-intensity role requiring workers who can remain calm under pressure, follow established support plans consistently, understand non-verbal communication and work collaboratively with another support worker to maintain the safety, wellbeing and quality of life of the participant.
Key responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with another support worker in a structured 2:1 support environment
- Follow the participant's Positive Behaviour Support Plan, care plans and risk-management strategies
- Recognise potential triggers, early warning signs and changes in behaviour or presentation
- Understand and respond appropriately to non-verbal communication and individual communication cues
- Use proactive support strategies and approved de-escalation techniques
- Apply MAYBO principles and strategies, where trained and appropriate
- Respond safely and calmly to incidents and behaviours of concern
- Support personal care, daily routines and community participation
- Recognise and assist with seizure management and other complex health-related needs
- Promote the participant's independence, dignity, choice and quality of life
About you
- Demonstrated experience supporting people with autism non-verbal and complex communication needs
- Demonstrated experience supporting people with complex or high-risk behaviours of concern
- Experience working within 2:1 support arrangements
- Experience implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans and risk-management strategies
- Robust de-escalation, communication and crisis-response skills
- Ability to remain calm, professional and safety-focused under pressure
- Experience supporting participants with seizures or epilepsy
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates
