About the role
Casey City Council is seeking a motivated and reliable Bushland Crew Member to join our team. In this hands‑on role, you will play a key part in maintaining and improving the health and sustainability of Casey's bushland and environmental assets.
You’ll be working across a variety of tasks, from revegetation and weed control to conservation projects,
helping to preserve our natural environment for the community.
What you’ll deliver
- Bushland Maintenance: Carry out general bushland maintenance tasks including hand weeding, herbicide application, planting, flame weeding, and other bushland maintenance tasks in line with industry best practices and Council policies.
- Bushland Regeneration: Support bushland regeneration activities to restore and enhance natural habitats, working to maintain biodiversity and healthy ecosystems.
- Equipment Operation: Operate mechanical equipment and plant (e.g., mowers, chainsaws, brush cutters, knapsack sprayers) to carry out maintenance and bushland regeneration activities safely and efficiently.
- Asset Management Reporting: Use portable devices to access Council's Asset Management System and record information on bushland and open space assets, including reporting defects or issues.
- Public Interaction: Respond positively to public inquiries or complaints, providing information about bushland and environmental management activities.
- Conservation Support: Assist in implementing conservation initiatives, providing input and supporting more senior staff with land management planning and environmental projects.
- Compliance and Best Practices: Keep up to date with current industry practices, environmental regulations, and legislation, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and safety standards.
What you’ll bring
- A tertiary qualification of AQF level 3 or above in Conservation and Land Management or related discipline,
or relevant experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use and maintenance of a broad range of plant and equipment including but not limited to chainsaws, brush cutters and spray packs is desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in the management and delivery of OHS & Risk Management principles and practices is desirable.
- Current Ag Vet Chemical Users Certificate is desirable.
- Current Certificate in First Aid is desirable.
- Current Australian Drivers Licence - Light Truck Endorsement is desirable.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check and Functional Assessment (Medical/physio)
