GRADUATE / JUNIOR PROJECT MANAGER – COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION

WIP Construction is looking for a motivated Graduate or Junior Project Manager to join our Cairns-based team.
This is a Cairns-based position and is not available as a remote or work-from-home role. Applicants must be based in Cairns or willing to relocate.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to build a career in commercial construction and learn how projects are managed from commencement through to completion.
You don't need previous experience as a Project Manager. We're looking for someone with the right attitude, aptitude and genuine desire to learn the industry.
You may be a recent graduate, currently studying, or at the beginning of your construction career and looking for an opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience working on real commercial construction projects.
The Role
Working alongside our experienced Project Managers, Site Supervisors and broader construction team, you'll learn what it takes to successfully deliver commercial construction projects.
- Assisting with the planning and coordination of construction projects
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and project documentation
- Coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers and consultants
- Assisting with procurement and programming
- Tracking project costs, variations and progress
- Attending site and project meetings
- Assisting with contract administration and project reporting
- Monitoring project deadlines and following up outstanding items
- Working closely with Site Supervisors and the project delivery team
- Communicating with clients, consultants and other project stakeholders
- Learning how projects are managed from contract award through to practical completion
We don't expect you to know how to do all of this on day one. We'll teach you.
What we do expect is that you’re willing to learn, ask questions, take responsibility and get involved.
Who we’re looking for?
We're looking for someone who is organised, motivated and genuinely interested in how construction projects come together and how they're successfully delivered.
You may be studying or have recently completed a qualification in:
- Construction Management
- Project Management
- Civil Engineering
- Building & Construction
- Quantity Surveying
- Or another relevant construction-related discipline
We're also open to applicants from other backgrounds who can demonstrate strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills and a genuine interest in pursuing a career in commercial construction.
Previous project management experience is not required.

- Is organised and able to keep track of multiple tasks and deadlines
- Has robust attention to detail
- Communicates confidently and professionally
- Is comfortable dealing with different people and personalities
- Is willing to pick up the phone, ask questions and follow things up
- Can problem-solve rather than waiting for someone else to provide every answer

- Is comfortable working both in the office and on construction sites
- Wants to understand the whole project rather than just their individual task
- Has a genuine interest in building a long-term career in commercial construction
WIP Construction is an established Cairns-based commercial construction company delivering projects throughout Cairns and Far North Queensland.
You’ll work alongside experienced Project Managers, Site Supervisors and construction professionals while gaining exposure to real projects and the day-to-day realities of commercial construction.
This isn't a graduate role where you’ll spend months watching from the sidelines.
