About the Role
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant for an immediate start on a fixed-term contract concluding on 30th June 2027 . The role will support the efficient delivery of financial and transactional accounting services across MTC Group, including accurately processing, allocating and reconciling banking transactions and assisting with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions. Working closely with the wider Finance team, you will contribute to maintaining data integrity, compliance, process excellence and the continuity of essential financial services.
Reporting to the Finance Manager , key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Complete month-end processing and Balance Sheet reconciliations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Own the end-to-end Accounts Receivable processes, including invoicing, payment receipting, bank reconciliations, debtor management and cashflow processing.
- Ensure invoices are accurately prepared, appropriately authorised, coded and entered into the relevant systems.
- Reconcile major debtor accounts, follow up required actions and prepare debtor and other financial reports in line with accounting and audit requirements.
- Review and process employee expense claims,
ensuring compliance with organisational policies and applicable tax requirements.
- Prepare gross profit and margin reporting for MTC Recruitment Limited, supporting analysis of revenue, direct costs, client margins and commercial performance.
- Support the continuous improvement of financial systems, processes and policies, while providing coverage across other finance activities, for example Fixed Assets, project and CAPEX closures, or Accounts Payable payment runs as required.
About You
The ideal applicant we are seeking will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, or equivalent commercial experience, with CPA/CA studies commenced or intended.
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles, GST, FBT, statutory reporting, compliance requirements and transactional finance processes.
- Experience working with complex ERP systems, with intermediate Microsoft Excel skills; experience with TechnologyOne is advantageous.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to identify issues and develop practical solutions.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong planning, organisational and self-management skills, with a commitment to ongoing professional development and training.
- Demonstrated commitment to MTC’s policies, values and compliance requirements,
including quality and information security standards, workplace health and safety, regulatory obligations and continuous improvement.
