The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Industrial Painter / Trades Assistant to join our team supporting fuel infrastructure maintenance, construction, and project works.

Reporting directly to our Operations Manager, your primary focus will be industrial painting, protective coatings, and surface preparation across tanks, pipework, structural steel, and associated infrastructure.

You'll also provide hands-on assistance to mechanical, structural, and civil trades, pitching in across maintenance and general project activities as required.

This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in preparation and finish, follows specifications, and enjoys working as part of a practical, safety-focused team. You'll work across metropolitan, regional, and remote project locations, with travel and time away from home required.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering quality industrial painting and coating works while supporting the wider site team. Additional duties include:

- Preparing steel surfaces, tanks, pipework, and associated assets for protective coating application
- Mixing, preparing, and applying primers, intermediate coats, and finish coats using brush, roller, spray,



or other approved methods
- Completing coating repairs, touch-ups, and maintenance painting
- Following coating specifications, technical data sheets, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and manufacturer requirements
- Assisting with environmental monitoring, wet and dry film thickness checks, and coating quality checks within your competencyMaintaining coating records, product and batch details, and relevant site documentation
- Supporting supervisors and coating inspectors during inspections and hold points
- Assisting trades with mechanical, structural, civil, and general maintenance activities within your skills and capability
- Supporting site establishment, material handling, equipment preparation, housekeeping, and demobilisation
- Cleaning, maintaining, and safely storing painting equipment, tools, paints, and solvents
- Following company and client WHS systems, permits, SWMS, and site procedures
- Raising safety, quality, access, or scope concerns early and stopping work where conditions are unsafe

About You

You are someone who takes ownership, communicates clearly, and gets the job done properly without cutting corners. You understand that a quality finish starts with proper preparation, and you’re willing to lend a hand wherever the team needs support.

You will have:

- A NACE/AMPP coating qualification
- Relevant protective coating or industrial painting competency, or demonstrated equivalent industry capability
- Demonstrated experience in industrial painting and protective coating application




- Experience preparing and coating steel substrates, tanks, pipework, or comparable industrial assets
- A sound understanding of surface preparation, coating application, and quality requirements
- Experience using hand and power tools safely
- Construction White Card
- Current unrestricted Australian driver’s licence
- The ability to follow instructions and progress assigned work without constant supervision
- High attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- A practical approach to problem solving and a willingness to support other trades
- The ability to travel and work away from home in regional and remote locations when required

The following will be highly regarded:

- Experience in fuel terminals, tank farms, petrochemical, mining, or other high-risk industrial environments
- Tank and pipeline coating experience
- Spray painting, airless spray, and abrasive blasting experience
- Experience working to coating specifications and ITPs, assisting coating inspectors, and completing QA records
- A relevant trade qualification or Certificate III associated with surface preparation and coating application
- Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry, and First Aid/CPR qualifications
- WPCG or equivalent fuel-industry site competencies
