Reporting to the Executive General Manager, Asset Management, Operations & Construction, you will set and run the organisation's energy market strategy across generation, retail and structured portfolios. You will own the hedging book, lead long-term contracting, and give the executive team a clear commercial view on transactions and investments. This is a hands‑on leadership role with a team to build and develop.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the energy markets function, setting strategy, priorities and governance for wholesale electricity, environmental products and renewables
- Own the structured electricity, carbon and renewable portfolio, including hedging strategy, valuation oversight, market risk and optimisation
- Originate, negotiate and execute PPAs, retail supply agreements, firming arrangements, offtake structures and ISDAs
- Direct wholesale transactions within approved mandates, including forward power, caps, swaps, options, FCAS-related products and environmental certificates
- Lead market analysis, scenario modelling and price forecasting to inform hedging, investment and strategic planning
- Oversee prudential exposure, liquidity forecasting, collateral and working capital impacts
- Build robust risk systems, controls, delegations, policies and reporting
- Provide market views, valuation inputs and risk assessments for acquisitions, divestments and joint ventures across wind, solar and battery assets
- Represent the business with counterparties, retailers, generators, advisers, market bodies and regulators
About you
- Extensive senior‑level experience in Australian energy markets, across wholesale electricity, environmental and renewable market activities
- Deep knowledge of the NEM, retail and wholesale market structures, and carbon and renewable certificate schemes
- A track record of negotiating and executing PPAs, ISDAs, offtake and retail supply contracts
- Solid valuation, financial modelling and scenario analysis skills
- Solid understanding of market and credit risk, prudential requirements, collateral and liquidity
- Experience setting up governance, policies, controls and reporting for market participation
- Proven ability to lead and develop specialist teams and work across functions
- Credibility with executives, counterparties and regulators
- Tertiary qualifications in finance, economics, engineering, commerce, mathematics or a related field are preferred
