The Company
An exciting opportunity has arisen with a tier-one retailer to lead a large-scale, multi-site distribution centre operations in Melbourne. This is a high-profile operational leadership role within a complex, fast-paced setting, with a strong focus on service, productivity, safety and continuous improvement. The business is undergoing an important period of transformation, creating an opportunity for an experienced DC leader to make a genuine impact on operational performance and the broader team.
The Role
As the State DC Manager, you will take accountability for the end-to-end performance of a large and operationally complex distribution centre. Leading a significant operational team, you will set the direction for the site, build leadership capability and ensure the operation delivers against key service, productivity, safety and cost objectives. A key focus of the role will be leading the team through change. You will bring a calm, visible and engaging leadership style, providing clarity and accountability while embedding new ways of working and maintaining operational performance throughout periods of transformation.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead a large-scale DC operation across people, service, productivity and safety
- Develop and empower a large frontline and leadership team
- Drive operational performance, productivity and continuous improvement
- Lead significant change initiatives and embed new ways of working
- Establish clear performance expectations, KPIs and accountability
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, capacity and utilisation
- Ensure strong service levels across a high-volume retail network
- Partner with key stakeholders across Supply Chain, Transport, Stores and Commercial
- Build a high-performance culture focused on safety, engagement and accountability
- Manage operational challenges in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
Key Skills
- Proven senior leadership experience within a large-scale distribution centre
- Experience leading large teams and/or high-volume, complex facilities
- Strong track record of improving operational performance and productivity
- Demonstrated experience leading teams through significant change
- Commercially astute, with a strong understanding of DC cost and performance drivers
- Highly capable people leader who can engage, develop and hold teams accountable
- Strong understanding of warehouse, distribution and fulfilment operations
- Data-driven approach to KPIs, performance management and continuous improvement
- Comfortable operating in complex, high-volume and time-critical environments
- Retail, FMCG or another high-volume consumer environment highly regarded
