About the role
Delta Group is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our Queensland Contracting Business.
Working as part of the estimating team, you will manage the preparation of accurate, competitive and timely tenders across construction, demolition, recycling and civil construction projects. You will collaborate closely with operational and project teams to develop methodologies, programs, cost estimates and commercially sound tender submissions.
The position reports to the Estimating Manager and Queensland Manager and may also provide guidance and support to junior estimators and cadets.
Key responsibilities
Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
Define project scope, work breakdown structures and tender requirements.
Prepare accurate cost estimates, pricing schedules and tender submissions.
Develop construction methodologies, activity durations and project programs.
Obtain and assess competitive quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
Identify alternative solutions and value-management opportunities.
Coordinate with management, operations and project teams throughout the tender process.
Maintain accurate tender registers, supporting documentation and reporting.
Present estimates for internal review in accordance with delegated authority requirements.
Attend site inspections,
tender interviews and subcontractor meetings as required.
Conduct post-tender follow-up and obtain feedback on tender outcomes.
Prepare comprehensive project handovers covering scope, methodology, program and budget.
Support the ongoing development of estimating systems and business processes.
About you
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:
At least five years’ experience in estimating.
A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Strong knowledge of engineering and project management fundamentals.
Demonstrated experience in cost planning, tender preparation and contract management.
The ability to interpret drawings, specifications and other technical documentation.
Proficiency with estimating software, including Expert Estimation or an equivalent platform.
Previous team leadership, coaching or mentoring experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
A practical, solutions-focused approach.
The ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines and maintain attention to detail.

Your performance will be measured through the accuracy and timeliness of tender submissions, tender conversion outcomes, quality of project handovers, stakeholder satisfaction, subcontractor engagement and the standard of required reporting.
