About Us
Morgan Consulting Engineers (MCE) is a structural and civil engineering consultancy that has been operating in Brisbane since 1972.
With around 55 employees across multiple engineering disciplines, we’re an established business with a friendly, down-to-earth team and a busy project environment.
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Forensic / Structural Engineer with RPEQ registration to join our Forensic team.
The Role
This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer to apply their technical expertise in a different way – investigating structural damage, defects and failures, determining causation and developing practical engineering solutions.
You’ll independently manage forensic matters from initial instruction through to site inspections, investigations, technical reporting and structural design, working with a range of clients and stakeholders.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Undertake site inspections and forensic investigations into structural damage, defects and failures.
- Assess evidence, construction information and site conditions to determine causes and contributing factors.
- Prepare clear, accurate and technically robust forensic engineering reports and recommendations.
- Undertake structural analysis and assessment of existing and new structures.
- Develop structural designs for remedial works, repairs and alterations.
- Prepare structural design sketches and work with our Drafting team to produce accurate design documentation.
- Independently manage allocated matters, priorities, deadlines and client expectations.
- Communicate technical findings to clients and stakeholders, including insurers, loss adjusters, builders and property owners.
- Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced engineers.
- Contribute to the continued development of MCE’s forensic engineering capability.
About You
- Degree qualification in Civil and/or Structural Engineering.
- Current RPEQ registration in the relevant area of engineering.
- Approximately 5+ years’ relevant engineering experience.
- Experience in forensic, structural, remedial, diagnostic or building-related engineering.
- Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles, construction methods, materials, defects and failure mechanisms.
- Excellent analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Strong technical report writing skills and the ability to communicate complex engineering matters clearly.
- Ability to independently manage projects, priorities and deadlines.
- Sound professional judgement, attention to detail and strong client communication skills.
- Current driver’s licence and ability to attend site inspections.
Previous forensic engineering experience is highly regarded but not essential. We’re also interested in hearing from experienced structural or remedial engineers looking to transition into forensic engineering.
Experience preparing expert reports or providing expert evidence would also be advantageous.
Why Join MCE?
MCE is an established Brisbane-based engineering consultancy offering a varied workload, technical autonomy and the prospect to work on challenging engineering investigations.
Our values are simple: Professionalism + Ethics = Excellence, Teamwork, Enjoy What We Do, Right Solution for the Right Job, and No BS!
You’ll also receive:
- 37.5-hour working week
- A full-time, stable position with an established Brisbane business
- Exposure to a diverse range of forensic investigations and structural engineering matters
- Autonomy to independently manage your work and projects
- Support from an experienced and collaborative engineering team
- Support for continuing professional development and RPEQ requirements
- Opportunities for career progression
- Employee referral bonus
- Recognition of service milestones
- Regular social events, including Friday drinks
If you’re an experienced RPEQ engineer who enjoys understanding why something happened, not just designing what comes next , we’d love to hear from you.
Be careful - Don’t provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs. Don’t transfer any money or complete suspicious online surveys. If you see something suspicious, report this job ad .
