HOBAN Recruitment is seeking an experienced and strategic EL1 level Assistant Director, Quality to join a high-performing government team focused on delivering quality outcomes, continuous improvement, and operational excellence located in any NDIA location in Sydney or Canberra.
This leadership role is responsible for overseeing quality assurance activities, managing team performance, providing specialist advice on complex matters, and driving business improvement initiatives. You will play a key role in ensuring decision‑making quality, supporting compliance with legislative frameworks, and using data‑driven insights to influence outcomes and organisational performance. Based on the position description, the role includes leadership, quality oversight, stakeholder engagement, data analysis, and continuous improvement responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead quality assurance and quality control activities across complex operational functions.
- Provide high-level technical, policy and operational advice on quality-related matters.
- Manage team performance, workflows and quality outcomes against business objectives.
- Coach, mentor and develop staff capability to improve technical expertise and decision‑making.
- Analyse performance data, identify trends and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Drive continuous improvement and change initiatives that deliver operational efficiencies.
- Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships across internal and external networks.
- Contribute to strategic planning, risk management and organisational objectives.
- Competitive pay rate of $602.55 per day at EL1 Level , including casual loading, providing you with financial stability and recognition for your expertise.

About You
You are an experienced people leader with a strong background in quality, governance, compliance, or operational improvement. You thrive in complex environments and can confidently balance strategic priorities with operational delivery.
To Be Successful You Will Have:
- Strong ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, procedures and standards.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams, managing performance and delivering outcomes.
- Expertise in providing high-level technical, operational and policy advice on complex issues.
- Proven ability to coach and develop staff using best‑practice leadership approaches.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities with experience interpreting complex data.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong judgement, problem‑solving capability and a continuous improvement mindset.
Highly Regarded
- Experience or qualifications in the early childhood sector.
- Experience within the disability sector.
- Qualifications or experience in allied health.
- Experience working within the Australian Public Service or broader government environment.
