Moriah College is a vibrant co-educational Early Learning – Year 12 Jewish Day School located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Student Life to provide strategic leadership across our High School, Years 7‑12. As Head of Student Life, you will lead the strategic direction of our Student Life portfolio, bringing together student academic wellbeing, pastoral care, engagement, behaviour, attendance, belonging, student leadership and community participation within a clear and consistent framework.
You will work closely with the Heads of Student Development (Years 7-9 and Years 10-12), Heads of Year (Years 7-12), mentors, psychologists and counsellors, administrators, Educational Support, Learning and Teaching, students and families to ensure a connected and consistent student journey across Years 7‑12.
About the role
- Providing strategic leadership across academic wellbeing, pastoral care, engagement, behaviour, attendance and belonging.
- Leading, developing and supporting the Student Life Team and building leadership capacity across the team.
- Developing and continuously improving systems, policies and practices that support student wellbeing and development.
- Using student data and evidence-informed approaches to identify needs, guide interventions and evaluate impact.
- Providing leadership in complex student wellbeing and behaviour matters, including risk assessments and support processes.
- Promoting restorative, educative and developmentally appropriate approaches to student behaviour.
- Building a culture of respectful relationships, student agency, leadership, service and community contribution.
- Partnering with parents and carers to support positive student outcomes and ensure clear and timely communication.
- Overseeing student transition, induction, safety, anti-bullying, cyber safety, leadership and student voice programs.
- Working collaboratively with Learning and Teaching and Educational Support to integrate academic and wellbeing support.
- Contributing to College policy, strategic planning and continuous improvement in student wellbeing and development.
- Deputising for the Head of High School as required.
About you
We are looking for an experienced educational leader who brings both strategic vision and a genuine commitment to students.
You will have
- Demonstrated experience in school leadership, student academic wellbeing and pastoral care leadership.
- A strong understanding of student wellbeing, academic wellbeing, behaviour, engagement and belonging.
- The ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives that create meaningful and sustainable improvement.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with students,
staff and families.
- The ability to lead calmly and effectively through complex situations, complaints and challenging circumstances.
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- A commitment to evidence-informed practice, professional learning and continuous improvement.
- High levels of integrity, sound judgement and a commitment to confidentiality.
- The ability to empower and develop others while working collaboratively across a complex school environment.
