SONDA Recruitment
Melbourne
Senior to Principal Stormwater Engineer OR Water Resources Engineer | Melbourne
Lead the flow. Literally.
Why this one's worth your time:
- You'd run the water capability. Your call on technical direction, your standards, your way.
- Competitive salary, bonuses and flexible working
- An office culture that exists; this team gets together often but not too much. If you're an introvert, you'll be in good company.
- Ongoing external development, training and backup when you need it
- Industry events if they're your thing. No pressure if they're not.
- A well-established firm with a deep pipeline of projects (pun intended)
The business
A Victorian land development consultancy with more than four decades on the clock. Civil engineering, surveying and estate planning, from first site walk to construction. Projects range from small to very large, right across Victoria.
This isn't a churn-and-burn shop. They back their people, and long service leave is the norm here.
The role
You'll lead the water resources and stormwater capability as a sole practitioner. You'll set the technical bar, own quality, sit in front of clients and still get your hands on the work. It's a full 360.
Stormwater experience is non-negotiable. If you happen to also be a flood modeller, that's great, you're in the Water Resources space and can run both these skills here. Critical though, is the stormwater skill-set, so you can work with developers.
There are a few other engineers in the business with water skills - who also do civil design - you're the one who steers the ship.
What you'll be doing (you've done this before)
- Designing and managing wetlands, retarding basins, waterways, culverts, WSUD assets and trunk drainage
- Building hydrologic and flood models in RORB, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS or similar
- Producing design plans, specifications and construction documentation
- Being the go-to for project managers and construction teams
- Working with clients, contractors and stakeholders
- Finding smarter ways of working and keeping quality and risk in check
- Staying across current design practice and thinking
- Leading by example on safety
What you'll bring
- 8+ years in Victorian consulting on land development projects
- A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- A little flood modelling experience, ideally in TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, RORB, DRAINS or similar
- A sharp eye for detail and pride in what you put your name to
- The ability to keep several projects moving without anything springing a leak
- Initiative, energy, and a habit of fixing things before anyone asks
