Commlec Services Pty Ltd is an electrical and communications contractor based in Mount Waverley. We deliver electrical maintenance, electrical projects and sports floodlighting installations for local government and private-sector clients throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria.
With an upcoming opening in our Accounts Department, we are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our office team. You will take responsibility for day-to-day bookkeeping and accounts administration, working closely with the Managing Director and our Projects and Operations teams.
This role suits someone who is organised, accurate and comfortable managing the accounts function within a busy electrical contracting business.
About the Role
You will maintain accurate financial records, manage accounts payable and receivable, complete reconciliations and prepare regular reports for management. You will also support payroll, job costing and general office administration.
Alongside keeping the accounts up to date, you will help management understand outstanding payments, project costs and cash flow, and follow through on issues that need attention.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare customer invoices, allocate payments, reconcile accounts and follow up outstanding debts.
- Process supplier invoices, reconcile supplier statements and prepare payment runs for approval.
- Complete bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Complete payroll processing and associated recordkeeping and reporting.
- Work with the Projects and Operations teams to maintain accurate job costing and timely invoicing.
- Track project costs and prepare information on project margins and cash flow for management review.
- Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports,
including agreed business performance measures.
- Assist management with budgeting and forecasting by providing accurate financial information.
- Maintain supplier account records and assist with relevant administrative requirements and renewals.
- Keep financial and administrative records accurate, organised and up to date.
- Identify and resolve account discrepancies, following outstanding matters through to completion.
- Review bookkeeping and administration processes and recommend practical improvements.
- Provide general administrative support to the Managing Director and office team.
- Assist with administration duties.
About You
You will bring:
- Experience as a Senior Bookkeeper or in a similar role managing end-to-end bookkeeping within a small or medium-sized business.
- A robust understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Experience with MYOB or similar accounting software.
- Strong Excel and spreadsheet skills.
- The ability to maintain accurate records and manage weekly and monthly deadlines independently.
- An understanding of job costing and the ability to explain financial information clearly.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- A proactive approach to resolving issues and completing tasks.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with management, employees, customers and suppliers.
- A high level of discretion when handling financial and employee information.
- Experience in the electrical, construction, trades or contracting industry would be highly regarded.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to take ownership of the bookkeeping function within an established Melbourne electrical contractor. Working four/five days per week, you will become an important member of Commlec’s office team and support the delivery of our maintenance and project work.
