Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health & Community Services is Canberra’s only Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service. Located in the heart of Canberra, we provide trusted holistic healthcare to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the ACT and surrounding areas.

About the Role

We are seeking a caring, motivated and skilled Dental Assistant to join our Clinical Services team.

Working alongside the Dentist, you will provide chair-side assistance during dental procedures, support oral health education and promotion, and contribute to providing a calm and culturally safe experience for our clients.

The role also involves maintaining high standards of infection control, accurate clinical records and providing administrative support to the dental and clinical teams.

Key Responsibilities

·Prepare and support clients for dental treatment.

·Provide chair-side assistance throughout dental procedures, including preparation and mixing of dental materials.

·Clean and sterilise work surfaces, instruments and equipment in accordance with relevant infection control requirements.

·Assist with oral health education and promotion for clients and the community.

·Identify opportunities to support oral health and hygiene education.

·Assist clients with special needs in clinical and non-clinical environments.

·Maintain accurate and confidential client clinical records.

·Provide administrative support to reception and clinical staff as required.

·Contribute to a safe,



professional and collaborative multidisciplinary work environment.

·Provide clinical/operational support to Dental Assistant Trainees as required.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

- Has experience working as a Dental Assistant and a strong commitment to providing quality client care.
- Can create a calm and supportive environment for clients who may feel anxious about dental treatment.
- Has strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
- Can work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrates positive problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Can prioritise workload and respond effectively to changing service needs.
- Is committed to ongoing professional development, education and quality improvement.
- Demonstrates a commitment to culturally appropriate and respectful healthcare.
