NYU Sydney is seeking a sessional lecturer to teach the undergraduate course 'Principles of Biology II' during the NYU semester of February-June 2026. Class is scheduled to meet twice a week with lectures and recitations tentatively scheduled on Tuesdays from 12:30-2:00pm and Thursdays 12-3pm, though final schedules will be discussed with the chosen candidate.

Responsibilities of the instructor include preparing and leading the weekly class sessions and recitations, course coordination, writing assignments, and grading. Lecturers are paid at competitive casual academic rates informed by local market practices and applicable employment frameworks. In addition to their teaching duties, they will be paid to attend periodic meetings and training, including an induction meeting during the orientation week prior to the start of the semester.

Classes take place at the University of Sydney's Camperdown/Darlington Campus.

Course Description

This is a continuation of BIOL-UA 11, an introductory course for Science majors and pre-health students, designed to acquaint the student with the fundamental principles and processes of biological systems. Subjects include the basics of chemistry pertinent to biology, biochemistry and cell biology, genetics and molecular biology, anatomy and physiology, neurobiology, ecology, population genetics and history and classification of life forms and evolution.

Applicants must be based in Sydney, and should hold a doctorate in Biology, or a related field, and have demonstrated experience teaching university students at the undergraduate level. Candidates with experience teaching Introductory level Biology classes is a plus.
