About the Team
The Social Work and Welfare Department at CHQ is a dedicated, multidisciplinary team committed to supporting the psychosocial well-being of children, young people, and their families. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, our department provides compassionate, trauma-informed, person-centred care across various clinical settings, including Acute, Medical, Oncology, Child Protection, CHQ at Home, and Post-Trauma services.
Our leadership structure comprises the Director of Social Work, Consultant, and Clinical Leads who oversee specialised teams within the department. These teams are further supported by a diverse workforce, including Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Specialists, Bereavement Services, Spiritual Care Coordinator, Welfare Officers, and Allied Health Assistants. Together, we work collaboratively to address the social and emotional needs of our patients and their families, assisting them in coping with and adjusting to health conditions or injuries, and strengthening their emotional and adaptive capabilities.

About the Role
In this role you will coach and support others to deliver for children, young people and families (Leader of Others) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:
Clinical Practice * Deliver high-level social work services aligned to the STAR (Supporting Therapeutic Assistance and Regulation) service, in an acute hospital, rehabilitation and community setting in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards,
with minimal direct clinical supervision. * Apply high level practice skills and knowledge to support complex clinical decision making, continuum of care, high standards of care and optimal clinical outcomes for patients, including children and young people with disability and/or neurodivergence and their families. Communication / Team Participation * Provide consultation advice and advocacy on behalf of the child and family to hospital staff, other social workers and community agencies as appropriate, including supporting reasonable adjustments and equitable access to healthcare. * Actively contribute to service and caseload management and planning within the team, including development of the Social Work contribution to the STAR model of care. Leadership / Self Improvement * Participate in social work quality improvement activities and apply clinical evidence that supports continuous improvement across CHQ and state-wide social work service delivery. * Provide clinical practice supervision, education and mentoring to less experienced Social Work staff and students.
