Team Leader – Mechanical or Electrical

Permanent, Full-Time Opportunity

The Business
We are excited to partner with a global leader in automation and robotics, employing more than 7,500 people worldwide.

With a brand-current customer site being established in Broadmeadows, Victoria, we are seeking an experienced Team Leader – Mechanical or Electrical to join the operation from the ground up.

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the installation, commissioning and launch of a major automated facility before taking responsibility for leading the ongoing maintenance team once the site becomes operational.

The Role
This is a hands-on leadership position suited to an experienced Mechanical or Electrical Team Leader, Supervisor or Senior Technician who enjoys leading people while remaining actively involved in technical operations.

During the initial project phase, you will work alongside the Projects team Monday to Friday, 7:30am–3:30pm, helping coordinate and support the installation, testing and commissioning of the company's automation equipment.

Once the project is completed and the site transitions into operations, you will move into the maintenance team and take responsibility for leading a team of technicians on a rotating 12-hour shift roster.

You will be responsible for ensuring the team delivers safe, effective and timely maintenance while maintaining strong relationships with the customer and supporting the reliability and performance of the automated systems.

Duties & Responsibilities
Project & Installation Phase

- Work closely with the Projects team during the installation and commissioning of the current automation system.
- Lead and coordinate technicians and contractors during installation activities.
- Support electrical and mechanical installation of automation equipment.
- Assist with equipment testing, commissioning and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate daily activities, priorities and resources to ensure project milestones are achieved.
- Identify technical issues and work with engineering and project teams to resolve them.




- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with company and customer requirements.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting.

Ongoing Maintenance & Leadership

- Lead, manage and mentor a team of maintenance technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Coordinate daily workloads and prioritise preventative, planned and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Remain hands-on with troubleshooting, fault finding, repairs and maintenance of automation equipment.
- Ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently by maintaining preventative maintenance schedules and responding promptly to breakdowns.
- Provide technical support and guidance to the maintenance team.
- Monitor team performance and ensure maintenance activities are completed within agreed timeframes.
- Act as a key point of contact between the maintenance team, customer and internal stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships and manage customer expectations.
- Ensure maintenance reports, shift logs, breakdown reports and other required documentation are completed accurately and on time.
- Review customer reporting for accuracy and quality before submission.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with engineering, projects, operations and other teams.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company, customer and Australian OH&S; requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organised and professional workshop and work environment.
- Support training and development of team members.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications
We are looking for an experienced technical leader who can combine strong people leadership, customer management and hands-on technical capability.
You will ideally have:





- Previous experience leading or supervising a small team within an industrial, manufacturing, engineering, automation or logistics environment.
- A Mechanical Trade Qualification OR A Grade Electrical Licence.
- Strong hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with component removal, installation and refitting.
- Experience with conveyors, belts, motors and gearboxes would be highly beneficial.
- Strong mechanical and/or electrical fault-finding capability.
- Experience working with automated equipment is highly desirable.
- Ability to coordinate workloads, prioritise tasks and manage competing operational requirements.
- Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Valid Australian driver's licence.
- Willingness to work a rotating 12-hour shift roster once the site becomes operational.

Desirable:

- PLC knowledge and experience with automated control systems.
- Previous experience in automated material handling, logistics or distribution environments.
- Experience with commissioning new equipment or facilities.
- Experience working within a customer-site environment.
