The Australian Orthopaedic Association has a full-time permanent position available in our Finance Team.
AOA’s Finance portfolio is responsible for the production of financial statements that comply with Australian accounting standards, that adequately inform members of their organisation’s financial results and position, and which permit the Board to carry out its fiduciary responsibilities.
The opportunity:
The key function of this role is to provide exceptional financial support to the AOA, its affiliated entities and to effectively support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), to ensure the continued success of AOA's operations and financial position.
This position provides accounting and administrative assistance to the Finance Team, including the accurate recording of financial transactions using the MYOB accounting system and AOA's database.
It also involves attaining familiarity with the roles and work of the Management Accountant and Financial Accountant, to provide them and the CFO with support as required.
AOA is seeking an honest, reliable, flexible self-starter, with the ability to work independently, while also being a team-oriented team member.
Key responsibilities:
- Processing annual member fees for AOA, its state branches and sub-specialty associations
- Bookkeeping for AOA state branches and sub-specialty associations
- Processing fee payments for scientific meetings
- Preparation of receivables invoices
- Processing accounts receivables & payables invoices
- Following up payments on accounts receivable
- Processing of receivables income in the AOA data base and the MYOB accounting system
- Administration of petty cash and cabcharge vouchers
- Banking
- Maintaining Fellowship records and reconcile unpaid fellowship funding
To be successful in this role, applicants will have the following:
Education/Qualifications:
- a minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role and
- a qualification from a recognised accounting body - such as a Diploma of Accounting or a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge of bookkeeping procedures
- Ability to produce accurate financial reports
- Knowledge of “Goods and Services Tax “(GST) requirements
- Experience in following up outstanding receivables and ensuring timely collection
- Substantial experience in use of the MYOB accounting and payroll system
- Advanced mathematical competency and the ability to see and correct errors
- Discretion in handling confidential or sensitive financial data, including understanding of information security and privacy
- Familiarity with finance regulations relevant to the industry and Australian Accounting Standards
- Experience in maintaining accurate records, managing competing priorities and following issues through to resolution
- Impeccable attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Ability to liaise with members and staff in a professional manner,
ensuring interactions are positive and have a service-oriented approach
- Demonstrated ability to prepare reports, analyse data and present information in a clear and meaningful way
- Ability to work collaboratively with other team members
- A strong work ethic and intrinsic motivation
